The Union Ranger is a youth all-mountain snowboard binding, new for 26/27 — a medium-soft two-strap that mounts through Union's compact Mini Disk and comes in S and M, sized to the child's boot. Union rates its own all-mountain score highest of the four axes, above its freestyle and freeride marks, and sets the flex at a medium-soft 5 on its scale — soft enough to stay forgiving while a young rider is still learning to level up.
That forgiving character is a construction choice. The compact Mini Disk lets more of the deck flex underfoot and keeps the binding light, while Union hangs it on metal parts — an aluminum heelcup, metal ratchets and steel hardware — so it can survive seasons of use and hand-me-downs. Canting is built in, and the Cam-Lock forward lean can be dialed from upright to driving as the rider progresses.
Reach for it for a kid or teen moving from beginner toward intermediate who wants a single setup covering groomed runs, side hits and early park laps. Look elsewhere at the edges of that range: Union's own Cadet sits below it, lighter and sized for smaller boots, and a rider who has outgrown youth boots moves up to an adult entry binding instead.
Two practical notes before you order. On mounting, the Mini Disk bolts to 4x2 and Burton Channel boards but not the 4x4 pattern, so check what your board is drilled for. On size, pick by the child's boot rather than age or weight; the run covers S and M only, with nothing larger above it. A binding ships bare, so we will mount it to the board and confirm the size and stance in the shop.
