PTO Ski & Snowboard

Serving Portland, Oregon

Ski Shop Near Portland, OR

Portland's closest premium ski and snowboard shop is just 10 minutes west on US-26 in Beaverton. Rider-owned, expert-staffed, and stocked with 28+ authorized brands.

Why Portland Skiers Choose PTO

Portland has no shortage of outdoor retailers, but most are general-purpose stores where ski gear shares floor space with kayaks, camping tents, and running shoes. PTO Ski & Snowboard is different — we are a snow sports specialty shop, and that focus matters.

Every staff member rides. Our buyers test gear on-snow at Mt. Hood, Bachelor, and across the Pacific Northwest before anything reaches the shop floor. When you walk in and ask which ski handles the variable conditions at Meadows, you will get an answer from someone who was there last weekend — not someone reading a spec sheet.

The 10-minute drive from downtown Portland to our Beaverton location at 5639 SW Arctic Dr pays for itself the moment you try on boots with a certified fitter or watch our tech set your binding DIN in person. These are services that online retailers simply cannot match.

What a Specialty Shop Offers That Big Box Stores Don't

  • Certified Boot Fitting — Shell sizing, flex matching, and custom footbeds for all-day comfort. We measure both feet, check alignment, and make adjustments on-site.
  • Binding Safety Checks — DIN settings calibrated to your height, weight, ability, and boot sole length. This is a safety-critical service that requires hands-on measurement.
  • Same-Day TuningHot wax, edge sharpening, and base repair ready before your next Mt. Hood trip.
  • Demo-Quality RentalsRental packages with current-season gear, fitted by the same team that fits our retail customers.
  • Honest Advice — No commission pressure. We will tell you if a $400 ski fits your needs better than a $900 one. Our Learn & Guides section covers gear selection in depth.

On Your Way to Mt. Hood

PTO is perfectly positioned for Portland skiers heading east to Mt. Hood. Swing by on your way out of town to grab last-minute wax, pick up a rental package, or replace a broken goggle lens. We stock Mt. Hood-specific gear recommendationsbased on real on-mountain testing — from 90-105mm waist skis for Meadows' variable snow to rose-tint lenses for Hood's flat-light days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is PTO from downtown Portland?
PTO is about 10 minutes from downtown Portland. Take US-26 West to the Murray Blvd exit, then turn left on SW Arctic Dr. The shop is at 5639 SW Arctic Dr in the Arctic Business Center. There is also easy access from the MAX Blue Line — Murray Blvd station is about a mile away.
Is it worth driving to a specialty ski shop instead of buying online?
Absolutely. Ski boots, bindings, and helmets all require professional fitting for performance and safety. Our certified fitters measure shell size, check flex, and adjust cant alignment in person. We also set DIN values on bindings based on your height, weight, and ability level — something online retailers cannot do. Many customers save money in the long run by avoiding return shipping and getting the right fit the first time.
Can I get same-day tuning if I am heading to Mt. Hood?
Yes. Most tuning services — hot wax, edge sharpening, and wax + edge combos — are available with same-day turnaround. If you are heading to Mt. Hood in the morning, drop off gear the evening before and pick it up on your way out of town.
Does PTO offer lessons for Portland-area beginners?
Yes. PTO operates Oregon's only indoor Maxxtracks ski and snowboard machine right here in Beaverton. Lessons are available year-round for ages 3 and up, with no need to drive to a ski resort. We offer instruction in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
What payment methods does PTO accept?
We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and cash in store. Online orders can be placed with credit card or Shop Pay. We also offer Shopify installment plans on qualifying purchases.
