The Union Cadet is Union's kids all-mountain snowboard binding — a soft, light two-strap on the Universal V2 Disk, made to move a young rider from first turns through first jumps. Union scores it a modest all-mountain 6 and its highest number, a freestyle 7, with a soft flex 4 of 10, so it reads as playful and forgiving rather than stiff.
The forgiving feel comes from Union's base-grade Duraflex nylon, which also keeps the pair light at 1.47 kg. Where it spends money is durability: an aluminum heelcup and Grade 8.8 steel hardware put metal into parts a cheaper kids binding leaves as plastic, so it holds up and hands down. Steel-screw straps let you lengthen the fit as feet grow. A binding is not a safety device: it has no release at all — it just holds your boot to the deck, so these parts shape fit and feel, nothing more.
Choose it for a child who is learning or progressing and whose boot falls in size S or M, and who wants a soft ride over a demanding one. Look instead at Union's single-strap Cadet One for a smaller boot, or at the Ranger if a bigger, keener kid wants more drive than a flex-4 binding gives.
One easy note and one to get right. The Universal V2 Disk bolts to every current insert pattern — 4x2, 4x4, Channel, even Burton's old 3D — so it fits any kids deck. And size is set by the boot, not by age: S runs roughly US Kids 3K to 5.5K, M from 5.5K up, both in Black and Green. The binding ships on its own, so bring the board and we will mount it and confirm the size and stance in the shop.
