Union Explorer Snowboard Bindings 26/27

The 26/27 Union Explorer is a medium-flex splitboard binding for riders who want a complete Union touring platform without the Charger’s firmer response or higher price. Union marks it at flex 6/10 and gives it Freeride 8, Performance 7, All-Mountain 7 and Freestyle 5 on Union’s own scorecard. Those are Union ratings, not PTO field-test scores.

Split-specific Duraflex ST appears as the S2 baseplate underfoot and the EXP2 highback behind the boot. The boxed ride disk and touring bracket serve the Voile pattern. Solid-board use comes through a separate Quiver Disk for 4x2 inserts. Cushioning comes from HP EVA below and a non-stick EVA surface under the boot. Union lists the pair at 1.98 kg.

Compatibility must be checked as two separate jobs: split hardware for the Voile pattern, and the Quiver Disk for a 4x2 solid board. Boot size follows Union’s unisex chart, never rider weight: S fits US Men’s 5.5–7.5, M fits 8–10 and L fits 10.5–13. The Explorer comes only in Black for 26/27.

The Explorer’s appeal is restraint. It keeps the touring-specific chassis and hardware while giving the rider more flex than the Charger, a useful trade for long days and less aggressive input.

Choose the Explorer for a more manageable splitboard flex, freeride-focused touring and lower cost than the Charger. Skip it if the Charger’s flex-7 chassis and pinless-transition system are the reason for buying, or if the setup will never leave the resort. Splitboard bindings do not replace avalanche education, companion rescue gear or field practice. PTO can confirm boot fit and board hardware before setup.
