Description
The Union Flite Pro is the entry-level binding in Union's snowboard line — an entry-tier model, built on the Universal V2 Disk for riders who are still finding their feet. Union's own numbers sit low across the card: a 6 for all-mountain and a leading 7 for freestyle, with performance and freeride scored lower still. It leans playful, and none of its marks is high.
That easy, forgiving character is a parts choice. The baseplate and highback are standard Duraflex nylon, left without the fiberglass that stiffens the grades on Union's dearer bindings, and a thermoformed EVA pad under the base handles basic shock absorption. Together they keep the flex soft and hold the weight to 1.54 kg a pair, steering the binding toward learning turns and building confidence rather than driving a stiff board.
Reach for it if you want a light, cheap, forgiving binding to progress on and you value ease over response. Look elsewhere if you ride hard: the stiffer STR gives one binding more drive across the hill, and park-first riders are better matched to the surfier Contact or the Strata. Two practical notes before you order. The Universal V2 Disk is unusual in Union's range — it takes Burton's older 3D bolt pattern as well as the standard 4x2, 4x4 and Channel layouts, so it bolts to any current deck with nothing off-limits. Pick your size by boot rather than body weight; the run stops at large — small, medium, large — and there is no XL. A binding ships bare, so we will mount it to your board and confirm your size and stance in the shop.

Union's Flite Pro is the entry binding in the line, at $169.95. Union scores it all-mountain 6, performance 5, freeride 4 and freestyle 7; freestyle is its highest mark, and none of them is high. The flex reads a soft 4 on Union's own scale, forgiving rather than driven. Union bills it as the lightest traditional men's binding on the market — 1.54 kg for the pair, a weight claim, not a performance one — and the scorecard reads like the entry binding it is.
That soft, forgiving feel is built from base-grade parts. Standard Duraflex nylon fills the baseplate and highback — Union's cold-consistent nylon, without the fiberglass of the ST, CB and XC grades on its stiffer bindings — which keeps the Flite Pro soft and light rather than mid-firm. Beneath the baseplate sits a Thermoformed EVA bushing for basic shock absorption, a step below the Molecular and Vaporlite suspension on Union's premium models. The straps are Union's entry ankle and toe-cap pieces, set with steel screws rather than the EXO Quick-Lock lever on Union's premium bindings, and there is no canting. It is an easy binding for learning, not a responsive one.
Where the Flite Pro stands apart is mounting. The Universal V2 Disk is the only snowboard disk in Union's line that adds Burton's old 3D three-hole pattern on top of 4x2, 4x4 and Channel, so it fits every current board — including the 3D decks that Union's Camber Disk and Mini Disk bindings will not. If you own an older Burton or ride a mixed quiver, this is the Union binding that mounts on all of it.
The trade for that soft, cheap, any-board build is a low performance ceiling, and you will feel it as you progress. For one binding to grow across the whole hill, the STR is the entry all-mountain step-up — a stiffer Camber Disk, all-mountain 7 and freeride 6 against the Flite Pro's 6 and 4 — though it is heavier at 1.82 kg a pair and drops 3D fit. For a real park binding, the surfier Contact and the freestyle-focused Strata are the step-ups. The women's Rosa is the same binding with identical scores and the same disk, lighter at 1.46 kg. Sizing goes by your boot, not your weight: the Flite Pro runs S, M and L in Black, Gray and Orange, with no XL. This is read off Union's catalog. Universal V2 Disk

- Will the Union Flite Pro fit my board?
- Yes. The Universal V2 Disk mounts on 4x2, 4x4, Burton Channel and Burton's older 3D three-hole pattern — the only Union snowboard disk that adds 3D, so there is no current board it will not fit. If you are unsure what your board uses, ask us and we will check.
- What size Flite Pro should I order?
- Size follows your boot, not your weight. Union's chart runs S for about US men's 5.5–7.5, M for 8–10 and L for 10.5–13; the Flite Pro comes in S, M and L only, with no XL. Tell us your boot and we will confirm the size.
- Is the Flite Pro stiff enough to progress on, or should I look at the STR?
- The Flite Pro is soft and entry-spec — easy to learn on, but its performance ceiling is low by Union's own numbers. If you want one binding to grow across the whole hill, the stiffer STR sits on a Camber Disk and scores higher for all-mountain and freeride, though it is heavier and will not take a Burton 3D board. For pure park, the Contact or Strata are the freestyle step-ups.
- Does the Flite Pro have a release like a ski binding?
- No. A snowboard binding has no DIN and no release mechanism — it holds your boot to the board. Its specs describe feel and weight, not protection.
