The Spitfire Vario 3D is LEKI's adjustable take on their long-running Spitfire freeride pole, built from HTS 6.5 high-tensile aluminum — a tough, well-proven alloy that holds up to season after season of off-piste abuse. The two-piece shaft runs 16mm diameter up top stepping down to 14mm at the lower section, giving it a planted feel without being excessively heavy for an adjustable aluminum pole (about 277g per pole). Length dials in from 110 to 140 cm via LEKI's Speed Lock Plus lever, which you can operate with bulky gloves on — genuinely useful mid-run when you're dropping into a steeper line than expected. Two baskets come in the box: a compact Cobra Alpine basket for groomers and packed snow, and a Big Mountain basket for soft-snow days, both swappable by hand at the trailhead. The Trigger 3D ProG grip does the most interesting work here — it's a passive multi-directional release system with a 220-degree release range, so the pole lets go if you catch a basket or strap up in a fall rather than torquing your wrist or shoulder. The mesh strap is breathable, fits one size, and clicks in and out of the grip quickly.
This pole is aimed at all-mountain and freeride skiers who want a single pole that can handle a groomer warm-up lap and a powder-field side-trip without swapping gear — the adjustable shaft genuinely earns its place here rather than being a gimmick. If you ski almost exclusively on-piste at a fixed terrain level, you don't need the adjustability and will be better served by the fixed-length Spitfire 3D, which is lighter and simpler. The aluminum shaft is durable but carries more swing weight than a carbon option; dedicated backcountry tourers putting in serious vertical will want to look at LEKI's carbon touring lineup instead. But for a skier who laps the resort one run and then drops into a side-country zone the next, the Spitfire Vario 3D is a practical, well-built choice that doesn't make you carry two pairs of poles.
