The Phantastick Carbon is Volkl's top fixed-length alpine pole, built around a 16mm carbon composite shaft that you notice the moment you pick them up. At roughly 227 grams per pole, the swing weight is low — your arms do less work over a full day of groomer laps, and the pole comes around quickly when you're linking plants in bumps or tight trees. The two-component grip (rubber and PA) has a laser-textured surface that stays put whether your gloves are damp or dry, and the length-adjustable strap snugs your wrist down without fuss. The Tungsten/Carbide Flex Tip is hardened for hardpack and ice — it holds its bite instead of mushrooming out like a soft steel tip can by mid-season. One thing to check before you commit: the basket is listed differently depending on the source, anywhere from a standard piste basket to a powder basket. If basket size matters for how you ski, confirm what's on the pole in hand rather than assuming.
These are aimed at intermediate to advanced resort skiers who spend most of their days on groomed or mixed terrain and want the lighter feel that carbon gives you over a full day of laps. They are not a backcountry tool: the shaft is a fixed length, so it can't be shortened for skinning or collapsed to stow in a pack, and the strap is a standard adjustable strap, not a release-safety strap — if you're touring, look at an adjustable/telescopic pole instead. If budget is the deciding factor, Volkl's own Phantastick 18mm uses a very similar grip and tip in a 7075 aluminum shaft for roughly forty dollars less; it's heavier but worth setting side by side before you decide the carbon is worth it for you.
