The Burton Highshot X Step On is a men's Step On® snowboard boot with a two-dial BOA® setup, one dial for the shell and one for an internal ankle hammock, on a Vibram® outsole; Burton describes its flex as firm. It lists at US$529.95 for 26/27.
Step On® swaps binding straps for cleats on the boot: two at the toe and one at the heel lock into a Step On binding, and a cuff clip at the back keeps pant hems out of the way. Burton's two-dial lacing uses the first dial to close the shell and the second to pull an inner hammock snug around the ankle, holding the heel down in its pocket. Inside, the Asym Imprint™ 3 liner can be heat-molded and closes with hook-and-loop plus an inner lace lock, and Burton adds lightweight power panels for support. Underneath, the X Firm Vibram® outsole uses EcoStep rubber with 30% recycled content, and a DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining is listed as the warmth feature. Burton's warranty runs one year.

Burton changed the Highshot X Step On's closure for 26/27: last season's boot had separate upper and lower zones and a Focus Cuff, while this one gives its second dial to an internal hammock around the ankle. That makes 25/26 reviews of the X a poor guide to this boot, and it makes the hammock the fit question to settle first.
An independent tester rode the 26/27 Highshot X for two spring days in a US 9 and judged the flex probably medium, bordering on medium-soft, which falls short of the firm flex Burton describes. He found the Vibram traction excellent and the footprint small, and wrote that it has "a better board feel than first-gen Burton Step On boots". The hammock stopped his heel lifting, but at every tension it folded over and pressed on the top of his foot, and he expects the flex to start softening after ten-plus days.
At US$529.95, the Highshot X sits between the Highshot Plus, which keeps separate upper and lower zones for US$80 less, and the three-dial Highshot X Pro, which splits cuff, ankle and forefoot for US$200 more. Burton says Step On boots only work with Step On® bindings, so budget for a matching men's pair, and try the hammock on before you buy.
