The Burton Highshot X Pro Step On is a men's Step On® snowboard boot built around three BOA® dials, and Burton sells it on a firm flex. It lists at US$729.95 for 26/27.
On the Step On® system, two cleats at the toe and one at the heel of the boot lock into a Step On binding, and a clip at the back holds your pant cuff clear. Burton's Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap splits tension into cuff, ankle and forefoot zones on separate dials, and at the ankle an internal hammock pulls the heel back into its pocket. The Asym Life Liner is built from lightweight heat-moldable foam with an asymmetric wrap cuff and a DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining, which Burton says manages sweat and reflects body heat inward. The X Pro Firm Vibram® outsole uses EcoStep+ rubber with 50% recycled content, and Burton says it removes material where it is not needed to save weight. The warranty is one year.
Burton aims the X Pro at riders who go hard, while rating it Happy Medium on its three-step Personality scale, the setting it pitches at riders who like to ride a bit of everything. Burton gives no numeric flex rating. It is the wrong boot if you plan to keep strap bindings, since Burton limits Step On boots to Step On bindings.
Burton builds the X Pro in Regular and Wide, sized US 6, then 7 through 12 in half sizes, then 13, 14 and 15; PTO's listing is the Regular width in Black, US 9 through 10.5. At US$729.95, the Highshot X Pro costs the most of Burton's four men's Highshot Step On boots, and it is the only one of them with three dials, which Burton says adjust the cuff, ankle and forefoot independently. Burton markets the flex as firm and the boot as built for charging.
Burton's published spec list for the X Pro is unchanged from 25/26, but the style number changed and Burton does not publish a change list, so an independent review of last season's boot is a guide rather than proof. That tester, on groomers in a US 9, found it medium-soft rather than firm and listed "Much Less Response Vs. Most Step On Boots" among its positives. The hammock ended his heel lift but caused pressure points, and three dials were slow to set.
Next to the Highshot X, which shares the ankle hammock, the DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining and Burton's firm wording for US$200 less, the X Pro's case rests on the third dial, the Life Liner and the EcoStep+ outsole.
