The Mantra 84 W is Völkl's newest entry into the women's Mantra line — a ski built on the same full Mantra platform as the wider 88 W and M7, scaled down to 84mm underfoot for skiers who spend most of their time on hardpack and groomed runs. Construction centers on a multilayer poplar-and-beech wood core with two titanal components: a Tailored Titanal Frame running along the tip and tail edges (its width proportioned to the ski's length, so shorter sizes carry less metal and stay more nimble), plus a second, thinner titanal sheet in the binding area that adds torsional rigidity at the contact points without dead-arming the flex. What you feel from this setup is damping and edge grip well beyond what you'd expect from an 84mm ski — it holds a clean arc at speed without chatter — while the tip-and-tail rockers keep the entry and exit of a turn forgiving rather than hooky. The 3D Radius sidecut adds a short arc underfoot (around 11.9m at 156cm) flanked by longer arcs through the tip and tail, so the ski pivots when you need a quick direction change but stays composed when you lay it on edge and drive a long turn.
This ski is aimed at intermediate-to-advanced women skiers who ski mostly groomed terrain and want a tool that handles firm snow with authority — not a playful all-rounder for mixed conditions or a ski you're learning on. If you're a strong intermediate who skis three or four days a week on blue and black groomers and occasionally pushes into easier off-piste, this is the right width and the right degree of demand. If you're still building confidence on steeper groomed runs and find stiff skis punishing, this is not where you start — the Mantra construction has real bite and rewards commitment through the turn. If you're an expert who needs a ski that handles crud and variable snow more regularly, step up to the Mantra 88 W: it's wider, more powerful, and built for skiers who want that same Mantra stability across a broader range of mountain conditions. This is a flat ski — no binding included — so plan to add your own binding to suit your boot sole length and DIN range.
