Description
The Montero AX is Stöckli's 80mm all-mountain all-rounder — the lighter, easier sibling to the AR. A light European-wood core with titanal (notched with S-shaped cutouts at tip and tail, so the ends flex easily while the center holds) and a rocker-camber-rocker profile make it quick to initiate and forgiving underfoot, while it still carries Stöckli's signature edge hold on firm snow.
It's a sensible one-ski quiver for an intermediate-to-advanced skier who mostly rides groomers but wants real flexibility when the snow changes — hardpack, fresh snow, heavy spring snow. At 80mm it leans frontside, not powder: if you want a dedicated soft-snow or off-piste ski, go wider; if you only ever carve firm groomers, the narrower Laser carvers hold an edge harder.

The Montero AX is Stöckli's precision frontside carver in the all-mountain lineup — 80mm underfoot with dual titanal and FTC technology. It's narrower and lighter than the Montero AR, with a snappier turn personality and quicker edge-to-edge transitions.
On hardpack and groomers, the AX delivers class-leading edge hold for an 80mm ski. It handles ice and firm morning conditions exceptionally well, with a lively rebound out of turns that keeps you moving. The FTC cutouts in the titanal give the tip and tail a friendlier flex than you'd expect from a full metal ski, making turn initiation accessible without dulling the response underfoot.
The 2025/2026 construction update refined the core and tail shape, making it easier to balance on and providing easier turn initiation at lower speeds. It's still a performance ski that rewards good technique, but the gap between "carving tool" and "daily driver" has narrowed.
Versatility is decent for its width — it handles bumps, trees, and spring snow without complaint. But it's not a powder ski, and skiers who spend significant time off-piste should look wider.
