Flex

4/5

Stiff — a carving freeride flex (Nitro publishes Response 9 / Comfort 10 on its own 1–10 scale, not a 1–5 flex)

Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.

Entry first: the Phantom+ is a traditional two-strap binding, not a rear-entry or step-on system. You drop your boot into the tray and crank the ankle and toe straps down with Nitro's Speedwheel 3.0 ratchets. If you were hoping for a fast rear-entry setup, this isn't it, but the payoff is the precise, adjustable strap fit that a carving binding lives on.

Compatibility is the one spec that has to match, because the wrong disc means the binding won't bolt down. The Phantom+ ships with Nitro's Universal Mini Disc, which Nitro lists as compatible with the 2x4 insert pattern and with Burton Channel ("The Channel") boards. Nitro doesn't list 4x4 for this disc — so if your board is 4x4-only or you're not sure of its pattern, send us the board model before you order and we'll confirm the fit rather than guess.

How it rides comes down to the stiff, direct build. The Premium Locked Down ankle strap and cable-reinforced, no-stretch ratchets transmit edge input with little slop, which is what Nitro's Response 9 rating points at — roll onto an edge and the board answers quickly. The 4mm heel rise, which Nitro says improves heel-edge response and control, is aimed at loading and holding the heel edge through a carve. Underneath, Air Dampening plus HYPER Foam (Nitro's "Air Plus Dampening") keep firm, chopped snow from feeling harsh despite the stiffness, and the 3° canted footbed keeps the stance natural over long days — the Comfort 10 side of the scorecard. Net feel: quick, locked-in, and built to charge, not to butter and press.

Sizing is set by your boot, not your body weight, so ignore any weight chart. The Phantom+ comes in Medium (US Men's 7.0–10.5 / Mondo 25.0–28.5 / EU 38.5–43.5) and Large (US Men's 11.0–14.0 / Mondo 29.0–32.0 / EU 44.0–48.0). Match the size to your snowboard boot's US or Mondopoint size. If your boot is smaller than a Men's 7, the Phantom+ isn't offered small enough — a model with an S/M run would suit you better.

If you'd rather have the all-mountain version, the standard Nitro Phantom is the sibling to look at — Nitro positions it as an all-mountain interface and rates it Response 8 to the Phantom+'s 9. It shares the Air Dampening and HYPER Foam cushioning, swaps the Premium Locked Down ankle strap for a 3D OptiFrame Flex strap, doesn't have the 4mm heel rise, and lists at $399.95 — $30 less.

Will it fit your board?

The mounting disk fits 2x4, EST/Channel insert patterns.

Technology

Air Plus Dampening (Air Dampening + HYPER Foam)

Nitro's dampening combo: Air Dampening for cushioning and HYPER Foam for responsive dampening. Nitro credits it with holding an edge and cutting through chop, so vibration on firm, fast snow stays under control despite the stiff build.

4mm Heel Rise

A 4mm rise under the heel that Nitro says improves heel-edge response and control — aimed at carvers loading and holding the heel edge.

3° Canted Footbed

The footbed is angled 3 degrees, which Nitro lists as being for natural body positioning — the kind of stance that stays comfortable over long days (part of what the Comfort 10 reflects).

Features

  • ·Premium Locked Down ankle strap
  • ·Übergrip Pro Integral Toe Strap
  • ·Speedwheel 3.0 buckle system
  • ·Cable-Reinforced Ratchet straps (extra strength, no stretch)

Strengths

  • +Nitro rates it Response 9 and Comfort 10 on its own 1–10 scales — a stiff, responsive binding that still damps well on firm snow.
  • +A 4mm heel rise that Nitro says improves heel-edge response and control for carving.
  • +Air Dampening plus HYPER Foam (Nitro's "Air Plus Dampening") soaks up chatter on firm, fast snow despite the stiff flex.
  • +The Premium Locked Down ankle strap and cable-reinforced, no-stretch ratchets keep the boot-to-board connection tight and direct.
  • +A 3° canted footbed angles the stance for comfort over long days.

Best For

Intermediate-to-expert riders who spend the day carving groomers and charging through chop, want a stiff and responsive freeride binding, and value locked-in edge hold over park playfulness.

Limitations

  • Stiff, response-focused flex is the wrong tool for park laps, jibbing and buttering.
  • Medium and Large only — no small size and no women's-specific model.
  • Ultra Black is the only colorway.
  • At $429.95 it sits at the top of Nitro's 26/27 binding price range.
  • The included Universal Mini Disc is listed for 2x4 and Burton Channel only; Nitro doesn't list 4x4, so a 4x4-only board needs a fitment check before you order.

Not For

Park and jib riders who want a soft, forgiving flex; beginners still learning to link turns; anyone needing a small size or a women's-specific fit; and riders on a 4x4-only board — the included Mini Disc is listed for 2x4 and Burton Channel, so send us your board model to confirm fitment first.

Common Questions

What snowboards is the Phantom+ compatible with?
It ships with Nitro's Universal Mini Disc, which Nitro lists as compatible with 2x4 insert boards and Burton Channel ("The Channel") boards. Nitro doesn't list 4x4 for it — so if your board is 4x4-only or you're not sure of its pattern, send us the board model before ordering and we'll confirm the fit.
How do I size Nitro bindings?
Size by your snowboard boot, not your body weight. The Phantom+ comes in Medium (US Men's 7.0–10.5 / Mondo 25.0–28.5) and Large (US Men's 11.0–14.0 / Mondo 29.0–32.0). Match the binding size to your boot's US or Mondopoint size.
What's the difference between the Phantom+ and the standard Phantom?
The Phantom+ ($429.95) adds a 4mm heel rise and a Premium Locked Down ankle strap, and Nitro rates it Response 9. The standard Phantom ($399.95, $30 less) uses a 3D OptiFrame Flex strap, doesn't have the heel rise, and is rated Response 8 — Nitro positions it as its all-mountain pick. Both use the same Air Dampening and HYPER Foam cushioning.
