Flex

3/5

Medium — a comfort-tuned all-mountain flex, softer than the carve-focused Phantom+. Nitro does not publish a 1–5 flex for the Phantom; this is PTO's use-based read. Nitro's own numbers are Response 8 / Comfort 10 on its 1–10 scale.

Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.

Entry is a two-strap binding: you seat your boot in the tray and ratchet the ankle and toe straps down with Nitro's new Speedwheel 3.0 buckles. The upside is the fine, repeatable strap adjustment a do-everything binding wants.

Check compatibility before you buy, since the disc has to match your board. The Phantom's mini disc is compatible with 2x4 insert boards and Burton Channel ("The Channel") boards. If your board is 4x4 or you're not sure, send us the board model and we'll confirm the disc before you order.

How it rides is defined by the wide tray. Nitro calls this the widest foot tray in its line, so a medium or wider boot sits fully supported edge to edge without hanging over, and the fit is adjustable enough to dial in. Its ankle strap is the 3D OptiFrame Flex Strap, which Nitro describes as natural flex paired with comfort and control; Nitro scores the Phantom Response 8 and Comfort 10 on its own 1–10 scale. The Air Dampening and HYPER Foam cushion firm snow, and the 3-degree canted footbed is part of that Comfort 10 on long days. If your priority is precision carving, look at the stiffer, pricier Phantom+, which runs the Premium Locked Down Strap, adds a 4mm heel rise, and is scored Response 9.

Sizing follows your boot, not your weight, so skip any weight chart. The Phantom comes in Medium (US Men's 7.0–10.5 / EU 38.5–43.5) and Large (US Men's 11.0–14.0 / EU 44.0–48.0); pick the size that matches your snowboard boot. Because the wide tray favors medium-to-wide boots, narrow-footed riders may find a snugger fit elsewhere, and anyone below a Men's 7 boot isn't covered by the smallest size offered here.

Will it fit your board?

The mounting disk fits 2x4, EST/Channel insert patterns.

Technology

Air Dampening + HYPER Foam

The Phantom's damping stack. Nitro credits Air Dampening with maximum cushioning and HYPER Foam with responsive damping; together they cushion firm, chattery snow. Nitro scores this binding Comfort 10 on its own 1–10 scale.

3° Canted Footbed

A 3-degree cant built into the footbed. Nitro's stated aim is natural body positioning — the slight inward angle keeps the knees in a more natural stance over long days.

3D OptiFrame Flex Strap

The Phantom's ankle strap. Nitro describes it as natural flex paired with comfort and control. The carve-focused Phantom+ instead runs a Premium Locked Down Strap; Nitro scores the Phantom Response 8 and the Phantom+ Response 9 on its own 1–10 scale.

  • +Uses the 3D OptiFrame Flex Strap, which Nitro describes as natural flex paired with comfort and control.

Best For

Intermediate-to-advanced riders who want one binding for the whole mountain — groomers, chop, the odd side hit — and ride a medium-to-wide boot that wants a roomy, adjustable tray with premium damping and a forgiving flex rather than a stiff carve setup.

Limitations

  • One point less response than the Phantom+ (Nitro Response 8 vs 9).
  • No 4mm heel rise — the Phantom+ has one, the Phantom does not.
  • Medium and Large only (US Men's 7–14); no small size and no women's-specific model.
  • PTO stocks only the Nitro x Eero Ettala colorway — Nitro offers other colors we don't carry.
  • Mini disc is compatible with 2x4 and Burton Channel; on a 4x4 or unsure board, check the disc with us first.

Not For

Dedicated carvers chasing maximum edge response and a heel rise (that is the Phantom+), park riders after the softest, most playful flex in the line, narrow-footed riders hunting the snuggest possible fit, and anyone needing a small size or a women's-specific model — the run is Medium and Large, men's only.

Common Questions

What snowboards is the Phantom compatible with?
It uses Nitro's mini disc, which Nitro lists as compatible with 2x4 insert boards and Burton Channel ("The Channel") boards. If your board is 4x4 or you're not sure, send us the board model before buying and we'll confirm the disc.
Will the Phantom fit wide boots?
Yes. Nitro calls this the widest foot tray in its binding line, which makes it a strong pick for a medium-to-wide boot, with room to adjust the fit so the boot sits fully supported edge to edge.
How is the Phantom different from the Phantom+?
The Phantom is Nitro's all-mountain option: the 3D OptiFrame Flex Strap, Nitro's widest foot tray, and Response 8. The Phantom+ is the precision-freeride/carving model — it runs the Premium Locked Down Strap and adds a 4mm heel rise for Response 9, at $429.95 versus the Phantom's $399.95.
