PTO Verdict

HEAD's race department built a ski for Saturday morning groomers. And it's glorious.

Best for: Strong intermediate to expert carvers who live on groomers. The skier who wants race-level edge hold without race-level demands. Saturday morning corduroy sessions.

Not for: All-mountain skiers, powder seekers, or anyone who needs off-piste width. For all-mountain versatility, look at the Atomic Redster Q9.8 or Stöckli Montero AS.

Description

The Supershape e-Rally is HEAD's race-bred frontside carver, dialed back just enough for everyday all-mountain use. At 78mm underfoot it's a piste ski first — and the construction is the real story: a wood core sandwiched between two full sheets of Titanal, with Graphene and Crossforce Carbon layered in and HEAD's EMC ceramic dampening killing chatter. That's the locked-in, planted feel on firm groomers that a lighter carbon-only ski can't match.

It rewards a skier who drives the ski and likes to be on edge — strong intermediate to expert, someone who skis groomers hard and wants race-room grip without a full race plate. It's not a soft-snow or powder ski, and it's not the forgiving choice if you're still building technique.

It ships with the HEAD Protector PR 11 GW binding. Its Full Heel Release adds lateral release at the heel — the heel can let go sideways, not just vertically — which targets the backward-twisting falls that conventional bindings struggle to release in. It's a real retention feature, not a guarantee: as always, your DIN is set and release-tested by our techs, not guessed.

The take

HEAD's race department built a ski for Saturday morning groomers. And it's glorious.

The Supershape e-Rally is HEAD's premium frontside carving ski — one step below their World Cup race skis, one step above everything else. Graphene reinforcement, Crossforce Carbon construction, and HEAD's ERD (Energy Recovery Device) technology that stores and returns energy through the turn.

78mm waist with a 14m radius at 170. This is a carving machine. On groomed hardpack, the edge hold is surgical. The ski bites, holds, and releases with precision. The ERD system is subtle but real — you feel a slight pop at the end of each turn that sets you up for the next one. It makes linked turns addictive.

At this price point and construction level, you'd expect it to be demanding. It's not — at least not as demanding as the Atomic Redster S9. The Supershape flex is progressive rather than brutally stiff. Strong intermediates can ski it. Experts will love it. That's a rare combination.

Compared to the Stöckli Laser SC (72mm), the e-Rally is wider, faster, and more aggressive. The SC is gentler and more forgiving. Compared to the DPS Pisteworks 79, the e-Rally is heavier and more damp, with better sustained edge hold. Different philosophies — carbon vs metal.
