The HEAD Unicorn JRS is a dedicated first-ski for kids stepping onto groomed snow for the first time. At 65 mm underfoot, in lengths from 67 to 97 cm, it is built purely for groomers and learning terrain. There is no titanal or metal in the construction — HEAD uses a lightweight composite core with their Jr. Power Frame geometry, which adds structural reinforcement along the edges without piling on weight. The Junior Rocker profile (roughly 15% rocker in the tip, 85% camber) lifts the nose slightly so the ski starts a turn without the child having to force it, while the camber underfoot keeps enough edge on the snow to feel stable and predictable once the turn is happening. The short 5–6 m radius matches how small kids actually turn. The soft flex forgives early-learning mistakes — a little too much speed, a little too much lean — instead of punishing them. The ski comes pre-mounted with the JRS 4.5 GW binding, a low-range junior binding (DIN 0.75–4.5) sized for kids' boot soles, so you walk out with a complete, shop-set system rather than chasing a separate binding that fits a child's small sole.

This ski is built for children learning their first turns on beginner and lower-intermediate groomed terrain — ski school, early family lessons, the first real season on snow. It is the sweet spot for kids who have had a lesson or two and are ready to log a full season of progression. It is not the ski for an advanced junior: if your child is already linking confident parallel turns and riding blue runs with control, they will outgrow this soft, short, low-DIN setup quickly and be better served by a stiffer step-up model with a binding that climbs to higher release values. The other limit is at the very bottom end — the shortest lengths and the JRS 4.5 binding are sized for older or larger small kids, so for the tiniest first-timers, bring in their boot sole length and we'll confirm the right length and binding fit before you buy rather than guessing off age alone.
