PTO Verdict

“100 percent camber, 68 mm underfoot, a 10.5 to 13.7 m radius run — plus HEAD's EMC piezo damping.”

Best for: Former racers, course-day skiers, and strong piste carvers whose favorite mornings are firm corduroy. The turn this ski wants is short — 10.5 to 13.7 m at every length in the run — and it wants that turn on groomed, hard snow.

Not for: Intermediate and progressing skiers, first. HEAD's own Level scale starts this ski at 8 of 10, and the prior-generation independent test called it unforgiving — "requires constant pressure and leg strength" — so if you are still building toward a carved turn, this ski will punish the gap, and HEAD sells the exit itself: the Worldcup Rebels e-SL at $1,049. Anyone hoping for versatility: 68 mm underfoot, 100 percent camber and a Terrain scale pinned to On Piste mean soft snow, crud and off-piste days are not this ski's job. Skiers who want light and low-effort — 2,225 g per ski (HEAD's published figure, at 160 cm) before a binding even goes on the plate. Anyone expecting a binding in the box — it ships plate-only. And anyone needing a length past 170 cm — the 26/27 run is 150 to 170.

Description

HEAD's Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro is a 68 mm slalom carving ski sold with the Race Plate WCR 14 mounted and no binding in the box. The profile is Rebel Camber, 100 percent camber with zero rocker, and the radius runs 10.5 m at 150 cm to 13.7 m at 170 cm. $1,099, ski and plate.

The construction. A wood core with aluminum alloy — HEAD's card adds "super-light Graphene and titanal layers" — inside Phenolic sidewalls, race tune finish, and HEAD's RD Race Structured UHM C base, which HEAD says Worldcup technicians use. EMC dampening: piezo ceramic plates at the ski's front and rear turn kinetic energy into electric energy that soaks up vibration. HEAD's marketing calls it the only one of its kind in skiing — HEAD's claim, not ours. HEAD publishes one weight: 2,225 g for a single ski at 160 cm, without a binding; other lengths get no figure.

Inside the line. The Worldcup Rebels e-SL keeps the 68 mm waist, swaps to ABS sidewalls and a different HEAD race plate, and lists at $1,049. Medium arcs are the e-Race Pro's territory; the e-Speed Pro (65 mm, 170-185 cm) takes the long, fast turn.

What we do. HEAD leaves the binding slot empty, and filling it is our job: we help you pick a binding for the WCR 14 plate, mount it, and dial in your release setting — a DIN number is an indicator, not a promise of safety. Our 26/27 order stocks the 160, 165 and 170; pick length by radius: 12.0, 12.9 or 13.7 m.

The take

“100 percent camber, 68 mm underfoot, a 10.5 to 13.7 m radius run — plus HEAD's EMC piezo damping.”

The Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro sits at the short-turn end of HEAD's Pro trio, delivered plate-mounted — Race Plate WCR 14 — race-tuned, binding left to you. HEAD's pitch carries Worldcup slalom attributes in a package it calls "easier to turn" and "less demanding." The benchmark there is HEAD's own race-room slalom ski, not the carvers most skiers cross-shop — tamer than a Worldcup ski can still be plenty demanding.

The e-SL Pro's construction backs the race framing. Rebel Camber is full camber, zero rocker at either end; the sidecut is 122 / 68 / 107 mm, listed identically for all five lengths, so the radius does the moving — 10.5 m at 150 cm up to 13.7 m at 170. The core pairs wood with an aluminum alloy, and HEAD's feature card credits Graphene and titanal layers in the layup. Phenolic sidewalls and a race tune finish it; the base is the RD Race Structured UHM C, which HEAD says its Worldcup technicians run. Then EMC: ceramic piezo plates in the front and rear convert kinetic energy into electric energy, used to absorb vibration. HEAD calls EMC "the world's only electronic ski dampening system" — HEAD's claim, repeated with attribution.

The independent evidence on the e-SL Pro is generation-fenced: the multi-tester review we found covers the prior generation, the 25/26 model. Its summary — "Heavy and damp so not playful or forgiving, but this translates to a very stable ski with great edge grip" — came with a blunt bill: "These skis require constant pressure and leg strength." Those testers placed it with experts and former racers, not intermediates. Take those reads as corroboration of character rather than a verdict on this exact ski.

Inside HEAD's line, the e-SL Pro has clean exits. The Worldcup Rebels e-SL, at $1,049 against this ski's $1,099, is HEAD's own relief valve — pitched as "easier to turn" than its big brother, with "less leg fatigue," ABS sidewalls in place of Phenolic, and its own race plate in place of the WCR 14. The e-Race Pro carries the Pro family into medium turns and longer lengths, 160-180 cm. The e-Speed Pro, at 65 mm and 170-185 cm, is the long-arc ski; the e-SL Pro tops out at 170 cm and 13.7 m, committed to the short turn.

Sizing the e-SL Pro is a radius decision, because the sidecut never changes: our 26/27 buy runs 160, 165 and 170 cm — 12.0, 12.9 and 13.7 m. What HEAD does not publish, we will not invent: weight at lengths other than 160 cm, the wood species, the metal layup, and the test season behind its page's awards go unstated. The $1,099 covers ski and plate; we fit the binding from there.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Race Plate WCR 14 comes mounted; the binding does not — it is a separate purchase. Our pick: Yours to choose with us — HEAD's US set lists "No Binding" as its only binding option.

The $1,099 covers the ski and the mounted WCR 14 race plate. A binding is a separate purchase: we help you choose one for the plate, mount it, and set your release value. DIN is an indicator, not a safety guarantee.

    Common Questions

What is the difference between the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro and the e-SL?
Materially, the Pro carries Phenolic sidewalls and the Race Plate WCR 14, while the e-SL swaps in ABS sidewalls and its own plate. Both run 68 mm waists and 150-170 cm lengths. HEAD positions the e-SL as the easier, lower-fatigue sibling; it lists at $1,049, the Pro at $1,099.
Does the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro come with a binding?
No. The US set's only binding option is "No Binding" — the $1,099 covers the ski with the WCR 14 plate already on it. A binding for the plate is a separate purchase: we help you choose one, mount it, and set your release value.
Which length of the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro should I buy?
Length picks your radius, because the 122 / 68 / 107 mm sidecut is listed identically at every size: 150 cm turns at 10.5 m, 155 at 11.2, 160 at 12.0, 165 at 12.9, 170 at 13.7. Our 26/27 order covers 160, 165 and 170 cm, and we help you land on the right one.
Is the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro OK for intermediate skiers?
HEAD's own ability scale places this ski with experts, and the prior-generation test (25/26 model) warned about the constant pressure and leg strength it demands. HEAD's easier ski in the same family is the Worldcup Rebels e-SL, at $1,049.
What is EMC on the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro?
Ceramic piezo plates built into the front and rear of the ski convert kinetic energy into electric energy, which is used to absorb vibration. HEAD calls EMC "the world's only electronic ski dampening system" — that is HEAD's marketing claim, repeated here with attribution.
How much does the HEAD Worldcup Rebels e-SL Pro weigh?
2,225 g per ski, without binding — a figure HEAD publishes at 160 cm only; weights for the other lengths are unpublished. Whatever binding you mount on the WCR 14 plate adds to that.
