Description
The Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk is an all-mountain alpine ski binding with a DIN 3-10 range, which Salomon rates for intermediate skiers. It takes adult alpine (ISO 5355) and adult GripWalk (ISO 23223) boot soles, Salomon lists a 19.6 mm height, and the brake widths depend on the colorway: Light Gray / Black comes with 80, 90 or 100 mm brakes and Black / Silver with 90, 100 or 115 mm.
This is the entry point to Salomon's Strive line, and the toe comes straight from the bigger models. The LDN toe sits low on the ski with an extra-wide pedal (over 60 mm) and a 72 mm AFD pad under the boot, and Salomon quotes 47 mm of elasticity. The wings and toe height set themselves to an adult alpine or adult GripWalk sole, so moving between those two sole types needs no toe-height change, though a different boot still needs its sole length and release settings checked. The heel is where the Strive 10 parts ways with its siblings: a one-piece Monobloc heel, with the jaw and step-in lever merged, where the Strive 12 and 14 use a three-part heel.
Skip it if you ski touring boots, pin-only boots or kids' soles, none of which are on its list. If your release value comes out above 10, it is the wrong binding; the bigger GripWalk Strives go higher. If your skis need a brake wider than 115 mm, look elsewhere, because Salomon offers no 130 mm brake on the Strive 10.
We match the brake to your ski's waist, mount the binding, and set and test release values against your own boot. The DIN scale is a reference indicator, and it is not the same as a measured release torque, so the setting you ski on is a technician's call.

The Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk sits at the low end of Salomon's Strive line, with a scale that runs from 3 to 10. Salomon rates it Intermediate and lists a skier body-mass band of 68.3-220.5 lb (31-100 kg), but body weight is only one input; your release value comes from a technician working from weight, height, age, skier type and boot sole length. That value sorts the GripWalk Strives for you. The Strive 10 covers 3-10, the Strive 12 GripWalk 4-12 and the Strive 14 GripWalk 5-14, so a value of 11 or 12 points to the 12 or the 14, and a value of 13 or 14 leaves only the 14.
The real choice sits in the overlap from 4 to 10, where the 10 and the 12 both cover your number. There, our call is the Strive 10, on two points Salomon publishes. First, its one-piece Monobloc heel merges the jaw and the step-in lever, and Salomon's catalog credits that heel with easier step-in and calls the Strive 10 GripWalk the lightest model in the Strive series. Second, of the three GripWalk Strives, it alone lists an 80 mm brake, on the Light Gray / Black colorway, so it is the one for a narrow ski. Take the Strive 12 GripWalk instead if you want range left above 10, or if you want the three-part heel Salomon fits to the 12 and 14. Both carry Salomon's Intermediate label and its automatic wing and toe-height adjustment, so neither of those separates them.
Salomon's own numbers soften the weight argument. Its 26/27 catalog lists the Strive 10 GripWalk at 860 g per binding, while its product page says 920 g, which happens to equal the catalog's figure for the Strive 12. Salomon does not say which is right, so the lighter-binding case rests on the catalog figure alone; the heel design and the brake options do not depend on it.
On the Strive 10 GripWalk, brake width is tied to color. Light Gray / Black comes in 80, 90 or 100 mm; Black / Silver comes in 90, 100 or 115 mm. There is no 130 mm brake, and Salomon publishes no brake-to-waist chart, so we choose the brake against your ski's waist when we mount it.
One check is worth knowing once it is mounted. The pedal sits on a spring and re-centers, so with the boot out it should rest in the middle. If it stays off-center, bring it in to the shop before you ski it.
Best For
Intermediate resort skiers whose technician-set release value lands inside DIN 3-10, on adult alpine or adult GripWalk soles, with a ski waist that one of its brakes, from 80 mm up to 115 mm, will clear.
Not For
Touring or pin-only boots and kids' soles: Salomon lists adult alpine and adult GripWalk soles, with no touring norm. Skiers whose release value is over 10: the Strive 12 GripWalk runs to 12 and the Strive 14 GripWalk to 14. Anyone who wants a three-part heel, or skis whose waist calls for a brake over 115 mm. And anyone planning to mount or adjust it at home.
Common Questions
- Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk vs Strive 12 GripWalk: what is the difference?
- The Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk runs DIN 3-10 with a one-piece Monobloc heel; the Strive 12 GripWalk runs 4-12 with a three-part heel. Salomon rates both Intermediate and lists automatic wing and toe-height adjustment for each. Your technician-set release value decides which range fits you.
- What size Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk should I get?
- Salomon sizes the Strive 10 GripWalk by brake width, and the options depend on color: Light Gray / Black offers 80, 90 or 100 mm, Black / Silver offers 90, 100 or 115 mm brakes. The brake has to clear your ski's waist, so tell us your skis and we match it. Salomon does not publish the boot sole length range, so we check your boot at fitting.
- Is the Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk good for beginners?
- Salomon labels the Strive 10 GripWalk Intermediate, and its 3-10 scale starts lower than any other Strive in Salomon's 26/27 catalog. Whether it suits a newer skier depends on the release value a technician works out from Salomon's inputs (body weight, height, age, skier type and sole length), not on the label. If that value lands inside 3-10, the range covers it.
- How much does the Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk weigh?
- Salomon gives two figures for the Strive 10 GripWalk: 860 g per binding in its 26/27 catalog and 920 g per binding on its product page. Salomon does not explain the difference. By that catalog it weighs less than the Strive 12 (920 g) and Strive 14 (980 g).
- Does the Salomon Strive 10 GripWalk work with touring boots?
- Salomon lists two sole norms for the Strive 10 GripWalk, Alpine - Adult (ISO 5355) and GripWalk - Adult (ISO 23223), so touring soles, pin-only boots and kids' soles are outside its listing. GripWalk's own guidance also says GripWalk bindings do not take touring boots. A technician confirms your exact boot at fitting.
