Best for: Kids who already stop and link turns in control and want to play: smears, side hits, small jumps, the park and skiing switch. It suits a light junior who needs a short, soft ski, from 103 to 143 cm with a Faction flex of 3, and a child who keeps catching edges on a stiffer ski.
Not for: Children still learning to stop and turn: Faction labels the ability Intermediate and advanced, and one retailer says beginners will find its performance hard to access. Kids who want to carve fast and hold an edge on firm snow: the soft foam core and rocker give that up, and Faction's poplar-core Dancer Grom is a more directional junior ski. Kids who have outgrown 143 cm: Faction's adult Prodigy 0 starts at 150 cm. Powder days: the 113, 123 and 133 measure only 78 to 82 mm at the waist.

Description
The Faction Prodigy Jr is a junior freestyle twin tip with a foam core, for kids who can already link turns and want to smear, spin and ski switch. Faction makes it from 103 to 143 cm and the shape grows with the length: a 123 cm ski measures 112/80/104 mm with an 8 m radius, the 113 is 78 mm underfoot with 7 m, and the 133 is 82 mm with 10 m.
Faction calls the shape a directional twin: the tip is 32 mm wider than the waist, and the turned-up tail lets a child ride and land switch. Its current flex rating is 3 out of 10; an earlier version of the page showed 5. Full Cap construction, an Anti-Chip Micro-Cap and XL 2.5 mm edges are there for the knocks junior skis take.
Faction's ability label reads Intermediate and advanced, so the Prodigy Jr is the wrong ski for a child still learning to stop. Skied fast on firm snow, it holds less grip and feels less settled, so it is also the wrong ski for a junior chasing hard carves; Faction's Dancer Grom, which has a poplar core and a flat directional tail, is the better pick there. Faction pitches the Prodigy Jr as feather-light, but its own weight tables list 1460 g per ski at 123 cm and 1300 g for a 128 cm Dancer Grom. Kids past 143 cm move up to the adult Prodigy 0, whose shortest length is 150 cm.

The Faction Prodigy Jr is the junior ski for a kid who has the basics down and now wants to play: smearing turns, popping off side hits, trying the park and skiing backwards. It fits a child who already stops and links turns in control on easy runs. A child still learning to stop and turn in control needs an easier start, and a kid who wants to carve fast on firm snow is better served by Faction's Dancer Grom.
The Prodigy Jr changes shape at every length. The 103 is 108/76/100 mm with a 6 m radius, the 113 is 110/78/102 with 7 m, the 123 is 112/80/104 with 8 m, the 133 is 114/82/106 with 10 m, and the 143 is 117/85/109 with 11 m.
Our read of the Prodigy Jr on snow is a loose, easy ski that forgives more than it grips. Faction builds it around Polyfly foam and a smooth rocker, and retailers list a rocker/camber/rocker profile; one adds 2 mm of camber. With the long middle radius of the Elliptical Sidecut, the ski pivots and smears with little effort, and Faction designs the rocker and sidecut to prevent edge-hook. That recipe gives up edge grip and steadiness when a child skis fast on hard snow. Faction rates the flex 3 out of 10 on its current page; an earlier version showed 5, with the same geometry.
Against the Faction Dancer Grom, the choice comes down to the tail and what the child does with it. The Dancer Grom has a poplar core, a flat freeride tail and a flex of 6, Faction labels it Advanced and expert, and it starts at 128 cm. The Prodigy Jr is the softer twin and reaches down to 103 cm. Faction calls this ski feather-light, yet its tables put the Prodigy Jr at 1460 g per ski in 123 cm and 1510 g in 133, against 1300 g at 128 and 1400 g at 137 for the Dancer Grom. Faction's 26/27 line list carries a Prodigy Grom in the same 103 to 143 cm lengths and no Prodigy Jr; Faction has not said whether one replaces the other.
Sizing the Prodigy Jr starts with Faction's guide: a ski around nose-to-eyebrow height, shorter for newer skiers, quick turns and hard snow, longer for fast skiers and kids heavier than average for their height. On Faction's chart, a 130 cm (4'3") child lands in the 115 to 125 cm range and a 140 cm (4'7") child in 130 to 140 cm. One retailer says it runs true to size and that lighter or less aggressive kids can size down. A child who outgrows the 143 moves to Faction's adult Prodigy 0, which starts at 150 cm. We check height, weight and ability at fitting before choosing between the 113, 123 and 133.
