PTO Verdict

The no-drama groomer ski for women who want to focus on skiing, not equipment.

Best for: Intermediate women who spend most days on groomers. The skier progressing from rental equipment to her first real setup. Advanced women who want an uncomplicated daily driver.

Not for: Expert women, powder seekers, or aggressive skiers who want challenge. For more authority, look at the Nordica Santa Ana 87.

Description

The Stance 80W sits at the narrow end of Salomon's women's Stance line — an 80mm waist with a rocker-camber-rocker profile (15% tip, 12% tail) and a poplar core with Salomon's Ti-C Frame, which is a single Titanal laminate underfoot flanked by carbon windows in the tip and tail. That construction is doing two separate jobs: the Titanal plate damps chatter and locks the edge into hard snow when you lean on a turn, while the carbon gives the tip and tail a bit of liveliness so the ski doesn't feel sluggish at the end of a carve. The sidecut is medium — around a 14m radius in the mid-lengths, so not a race-course short turn and not a lazy big-mountain arc — which keeps the ski quick to initiate and forgiving when the pitch changes. On groomed snow this ski is reassuring; it holds an edge on icy morning groomers without demanding precision from you, and the rocker at both ends makes it easy to release and redirect. It comes complete with the M10 GripWalk binding, a solid everyday resort binding that gets you on snow without having to spec your own setup.

This is the right ski for someone who has moved past the beginner stage and is building consistency on groomed terrain — the skier who wants something that rewards good technique but doesn't punish a late edge. The 80mm waist is genuinely narrow, which means it tracks well on cord but floats poorly in anything more than a few inches of new snow; if you ski powder or crud regularly, this is the wrong tool. Likewise, if you're already a strong intermediate who carves decisively and wants to push into steeper terrain or off-piste, the Stance W 84 is the better call — it runs a Karuba/Poplar blend core that keeps weight down while adding snap, and the extra 4mm underfoot opens up more terrain options without giving up on-piste manners. The Stance 80W is for the skier who lives on blue and easy black runs and wants a confident, settled ride that won't fight them.

The take

The no-drama groomer ski for women who want to focus on skiing, not equipment.

The Stance 80 W is the women's version of Salomon's groomer workhorse. Same 80mm waist, same poplar-titanal construction, but tuned for lighter skiers with a softer flex pattern and shorter length options.

The titanal layer is what separates this from entry-level women's skis. It gives the ski actual stability — on firm morning groomers, it holds an edge instead of washing out. That's the upgrade: going from "the ski turns when I lean" to "the ski carves when I commit."

Four sizes from 141 to 167 covers most women. The flex is progressive — softer in the tips for easy entry, firmer underfoot for hold. It rewards improving technique without punishing developing skills.

This is the ski for the intermediate woman who's ready for something better than a rental but doesn't want to be overwhelmed. It's also the ski for the advanced woman who wants a no-fuss groomer setup that just works every time she clicks in.
