The Burton Women's Highshot X Step On is a Step On® boot built around an adjustable internal ankle hammock, with a flex Burton calls firm, priced at US$529.95.
Burton's closure here, Dual Zone BOA® w/ Internal Hammock, uses one BOA® dial to close the shell and a second, independent dial to cinch a hammock around the ankle, which Burton says holds the heel down in the heel pocket. The Asym Imprint™ 3 liner is heat-moldable, closes with hook-and-loop and an inner lace lock, and adds lightweight power panels; Burton names a DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining as its warmth feature. Underfoot, the X Firm Vibram® Step On® Outsole combines Vibram EcoStep rubber, traction lugs and 30% recycled content with the toe cleats that, along with the heel connection, lock the boot into a Step On binding at three points. Its Personality slider sits between Happy Medium and Stiff & Aggressive.
It suits an experienced rider who has settled on Step On. It is not for strap bindings: Burton says its Step On boots work only with Step On bindings, and that mixing women's and men's Step On products will cause a malfunction that could compromise your safety.

Pick the Highshot X Step On if locking the heel matters more to you than tuning the shell zone by zone. Burton gives it firmer wording than the Highshot and Highshot Plus, which it calls medium-stiff, and of those three it alone runs a Vibram outsole.
The Highshot X gives up shell zones to get there. Burton's tech card gives the shell a single dial, and a two-day review of the men's 26/27 version, which Burton lists with the same lacing, liner, cuff and outsole, found no upper/lower adjustability; the Highshot Plus does split upper and lower, at US$449.95, and the Highshot X Pro runs three independent dials for cuff, ankle and forefoot at US$729.95.
The Highshot X's hammock is also the part to test in person. That reviewer found it prevented heel lift but helped support and response less than it should. It also caused pressure points at every tension tried, though some riders, the review notes, don't mind it at all. The same reviewer rated the Vibram traction excellent and strongly suggested trying the boot on before buying.
