Description
The Burton Ion BOA is a men's snowboard boot for strap bindings that Burton places in Stiff & Aggressive, the firmest of its three Personality tiers. Burton's tagline calls it firm-flexing and responsive.
Closure is Burton's Dual Zone High Power Focus BOA®, two dials in Burton's photos, which Burton says aims fit at the midfoot and tensions the upper and lower boot independently. Inside sits the Life Liner, heat-moldable Ultralon Performance Foam® with a DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining that Burton describes as a cush, relaxed fit, plus a Tuff Cuff Lite inner cuff for heel hold and ankle support. Underfoot is the Autocant Outsole: a dual-density platform whose medial, or inner, side is the softer one, set on Burton's zero-ramp EST® base with a reflective foil layer for warmth.

Burton's Ion BOA is for the rider who wants the firmest of Burton's Moto, Ruler, Photon and Ion BOA boots and will pay for it. Burton labels it Stiff & Aggressive, pitches it at full-speed charging, and calls its High Power Focus BOA® "BOA's pinnacle configuration", with "more tensioning power and control of the instep and lower zone than other BOA® systems".
Where the Ion BOA loses is to its cheaper sibling. The Photon BOA costs $210 less ($479.95 against $689.95) and rides on a Vibram lug sole that Burton pitches for the boot pack, so a rider who hikes for turns, or who is not sure they need Burton's Stiff & Aggressive label, should try the Photon first.
Burton's pages since 23/24 list the same lacing, liner, inner cuff and outsole, and the price rose to $689.95 in 25/26. Burton publishes no weight, last width or flex number for it, so the one test that settles this boot is your foot in it.
