PTO Verdict

“A short, wide directional board that lifts its own nose in soft snow - built to surf, not to ride switch.”

Best for: Intermediate and advanced riders who see soft snow and want one short, wide, playful board for trees, side hits and slashing groomers, and who are happy to size down 5-10 cm to get it.

Not for: Park, jib and pipe riders, and anyone who rides much switch: the Party Wave is directional with a high nose and low tail, and Bataleon's Evil Twin or Men's Stereo is the twin for that riding. Riders who want a stiff, damp board to hold flat out on hardpack - the 4/10 flex gives that up. And riders chasing the deepest days, where a longer, set-back swallowtail can float deeper than a short board sized down.

Description

The Bataleon Party Wave snowboard is a directional powder and all-mountain board: short, wide and volume-shifted, and Bataleon wants you to size it 5-10 cm down from your normal board. It pairs positive camber with Bataleon's 3BT base shaping, flexes a soft-medium 4/10, and comes in 145 to 157 cm with waists from 260 mm to 280 mm. It is not one of Bataleon's twins: the spec card gives the nose a high sidebase uplift and the tail a low one.

That uneven lift is how the board floats. 3BT, short for Triple Base Technology, keeps a cambered strip down the middle of the base for pop and grip, then raises the edges gradually toward the contact points at the nose and tail. SideKick lifts them further just past those points, so the tips work like a hull. With more lift up front than behind, the nose planes up in soft snow while the tail settles, and you stay centered instead of sitting back on your rear leg. Edges held off the snow near the contact points are also slow to catch on a landing and quick to roll from one edge to the other. Bataleon calls the build stripped-down: a Core Core wood core with beech stringers, Bi-Ax laminate, Flex Walls and a sintered Hyper Glide S base.

It fits an intermediate or advanced rider whose good days are soft ones: tree runs, side hits, powder mornings and groomers ridden loose and surfy. It is the wrong board for park laps and switch riding, where Bataleon's own terrain meter gives Park its shortest bar, and for riders who want a stiff deck that stays calm at high speed on hardpack.

Size it down from what you ride now, then let Bataleon's rider-weight range for each length settle the choice. It is sold as a bare deck, so bindings are separate; we mount them, set the stance and help choose the length from your weight and boot size.

The take

“A short, wide directional board that lifts its own nose in soft snow - built to surf, not to ride switch.”

The Bataleon Party Wave is a volume-shifted cruiser, in Bataleon's own words, and you buy it short. Bataleon designs it to be ridden 5-10 cm below your usual length, and the width makes up the surface: waists run 260 mm on the 145 to 280 mm on the 157. Flex is 4/10 on Bataleon's soft-to-stiff scale. The outline is directional, and the nose is wider than the tail at every length on the spec card.

Where it sits: the Party Wave is a soft-snow board that also rides the resort, not a resort board with some float bolted on. Its 3BT lift is high at the nose and low at the tail, which is why it works at a short length and the reason to pick it over one of Bataleon's twins. If you chase fresh snow and ride the groomers in between, it earns its place; if the snow where you ride is usually firm and fast, a stiffer, more symmetric board will serve you better most days.

On the hill, the Party Wave matches its terrain meter: Pow and Resort near full, Park the shortest bar. It slashes more than it carves, turns quickly in trees and off side hits, and holds a groomer at a relaxed pace. Push it fast on hardpack and the soft-medium flex runs out of damping - that job belongs to a stiffer board.

Next to the Evil Twin and the Men's Stereo, the Party Wave loses on symmetry. The Evil Twin is a true twin with medium uplift at both ends and a 5/10 flex, and at 154 its waist is 250 mm against the Party Wave's 275 mm. The Men's Stereo shares the 4/10 flex number but is a twin with low uplift at both ends and a park-leaning meter. Ride switch or live in the park, and either twin is your board. On the deepest days, a longer, more set-back swallowtail can float deeper than the Party Wave.

One spec note on the Party Wave: Bataleon publishes no taper or setback figure, and its card lists the inserts as centered, so taper and setback numbers quoted on other sites are not Bataleon's. Listings for the 25/26 board print the same five lengths and the same edge, waist and sidecut ranges as the 26/27 card, so last season's sizing logic carries over. The board ships without bindings; we mount a pair, set your stance and pick the length with you.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Centered inserts - Bataleon's spec card lists the insert location as centered and gives no setback figure. Our pick: We match bindings to your boots and riding at mounting.

The Party Wave ships as a bare deck. Retailer listings give a 2x4 insert pattern; our technician confirms your binding fits the inserts and sets your stance when we mount it.

    Common Questions

Bataleon Party Wave vs Evil Twin: which should I get?
Bataleon's Party Wave is the directional soft-snow board; the Evil Twin is a symmetric twin, 5/10 in flex, with the same medium uplift at nose and tail. At 154 the Party Wave's waist is 275 mm against the Evil Twin's 250 mm. Pick the Party Wave for powder, trees and slashing, the Evil Twin for park and switch.
What size Bataleon Party Wave should I get?
Take 5-10 cm off your everyday length for the Bataleon Party Wave, per Bataleon, then use its rider-weight bands to choose: they run 51-71 kg on the 148, 56-76 kg on the 151 and 61-81 kg on the 154. We confirm the length with your weight and boot size.
Is the Bataleon Party Wave good for beginners?
For its type, the Bataleon Party Wave is forgiving, with a 4/10 flex and 3BT edges lifted off the snow near the tips. It is still a directional soft-snow board, so it suits riders who already link turns. A first-week rider still learning on groomers is outside the brief Bataleon built it for.
Bataleon Party Wave vs Men's Stereo: what is the difference?
The Bataleon Party Wave and the Men's Stereo share a 4/10 flex number but are built for different riding. The Stereo is symmetric, with low SideKick lift at nose and tail and Park as the longest bar on its terrain meter; the Party Wave pairs a high nose and low tail with a wider waist for soft snow.
What bindings work with the Bataleon Party Wave?
The Bataleon Party Wave ships without bindings, and Bataleon's spec card lists its inserts as centered. Retailer listings give a 2x4 insert pattern, but Bataleon prints only the insert location, so our technician checks the fit against the inserts when we mount it and set your stance.
