Who Are Indoor Lessons For?

  • Complete beginners — Learn balance, stopping, and turning in a safe, controlled environment before ever visiting a ski resort.
  • Young children (ages 35) — Our Tiny Sliders program introduces skiing gently, without the overwhelming sensory overload of a busy mountain.
  • Intermediate riders — Work on parallel turns, carving, or switch riding with focused coaching and immediate feedback.
  • Pre-season tune-up — Shake off the rust before your first Mt. Hood day of the winter.
  • Families — Mix beginners and intermediates in a single family session. Everyone rides, everyone improves.
  • Kids on school breaks — Our camps run when a group forms: five sign-ups open a camp, all equipment included.

PTO offers indoor lessons in English and Chinese (Mandarin). Let us know your preferred language when booking and we will pair you with the right instructor. This is especially valuable for young children who learn best in their first language.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can children start indoor ski or snowboard lessons?
Ski lessons start at age 3 through our Tiny Sliders program; snowboard lessons start at age 5. Riders learn on an adjustable indoor slope with a coach close beside them — no chairlifts, cold, or mountain crowds.
Do I need to bring my own equipment for indoor lessons?
No. All equipment is included with every lesson — skis or snowboard, boots, helmet, and any other necessary gear. Just wear comfortable, athletic clothing and socks that cover your ankles.
How does an indoor ski machine work?
Our revolving indoor slope is essentially a treadmill for skiing and snowboarding. A textured surface moves downhill beneath you while you remain in the same spot, allowing your instructor to stand right beside you and give real-time coaching. The speed and incline are adjustable, so the machine adapts to your skill level.
Are indoor lessons available year-round?
Yes. Unlike on-mountain lessons, our indoor facility operates 12 months a year. Many customers use summer lessons to build skills before winter, while others maintain technique during the off-season. Call 971-263-2916 or visit ptoski.com/lessons to check availability.
Where can I go indoor skiing near Portland?
PTO's indoor slope is in Beaverton, 10 minutes from downtown Portland. It is Oregon's only indoor revolving ski slope, and it runs year-round.
