Description
The Salomon District is a two-strap freestyle snowboard binding for intermediate to advanced riders, built on Salomon's ShadowFit baseplate with a flexible heel loop instead of a rigid heel cup. Salomon describes a softer flex, retail spec sheets range from 3 of 5 (medium) down to soft, and it mounts on a Universal Disc with Salomon's IMS (Integrated Mounting System). Dealer listings print 4x4 and 2x4 for that disc, and one 2027 dealer listing also names Channel. Our technician confirms the fit on your board when we mount it.
ShadowFit sets the District's character. The soft heel loop lets the board flex through the binding and gives the boot a more natural connection, so the District is easy to press and tweak. A Kevlar Quickwire, anchored at the toes and routed around the heel cup, sharpens edge-to-edge response, and a Power Hook ties it to the baseplate for more drive on heelside turns. The asymmetrical District highback is pre-rotated 12 degrees and adjusts for forward lean, the 30% fiberglass nylon baseplate sits over a 2.5-degree canted footbed with full EVA pads, and the buckle levers are aluminum.
That heel loop is also the reason to pass. Riders after a rigid heel cup should look elsewhere: the District is not built that way, and an independent multi-year test notes that some riders cannot adapt to ShadowFit. Riders who hit bigger jumps should look one tier up to the District Pro, Salomon's more supportive version with upgraded suspension. Beginners in their first season are better off on the softer Rhythm.
Size comes from your boot, never your body weight. Salomon's chart gives US men's 3.5 to 7 an S, 8.5 to 9.5 an M and 11 to 13.5 an L, and men's 7.5–8 or 10–10.5 can go either way. Choosing a Salomon District comes down to how much heel hold you want. In Salomon's 26/27 line it sits above the EDB and EDB Prime, with the more supportive District Pro and the more responsive Hologram above it. Pick the District for park laps and groomers when you would rather have room to move than a locked-in heel, and step up to the District Pro when your riding needs the heel to hold.
The Salomon District Pro is the step up for riders who want more support. Salomon describes it as keeping the District's comfort and natural connection while adding a more supportive heelcup, upgraded suspension and a more responsive strap. Retail specs list a 45% fiberglass nylon baseplate against the District's 30%, and a Shadow Lite ankle strap where the District uses its injected Asym Shadow Strap; both carry the same District highback. Higher again, the Hologram is the more responsive binding: an independent multi-year test rates the District a little less responsive and liked the Hologram straps a little better.
Independent testing on the District runs long: one long-running independent test has covered it from 2013 through 2025 and says it has changed very little. That testing rates it medium-soft, easy to butter and press, comfortable, with smooth ratchets and upper-tier shock absorption, and says its ankle strap allows the most freedom of movement among Salomon's Shadow Tech bindings. The negatives it lists are limited adjustability and a heel loop that some riders cannot get used to. An earlier review called the flexible heel cup the biggest downside for a beginner and pointed riders who hit bigger jumps toward something stiffer.
Sizing on the Salomon District follows the boot. Salomon Australia's chart puts S at 220–250 mm of foot length, M at 261–275 mm and L at 286–315 mm, and feet at 251–260 mm or 276–285 mm can go either way. The disc is Salomon's Universal Disc with IMS, which keeps the disc screws in place when you change stance angles, and it is listed as Unite Disc compatible.
