Best for: Park and jib riders — anyone who spends the day buttering, pressing, riding switch, and lapping rails, boxes and small to medium jumps. It is also a forgiving board for an intermediate rider learning freestyle who wants soft flex without a dead, washy feel underfoot.
Not for: Powder hunters: a centered true twin with no setback and a Powder 4 terrain score has nothing to float on. High-speed all-mountain chargers: a soft flex 4 on an extruded base gets loose and undamped when you point it. Total first-timers on day one: the full Stay Positive camber will catch an edge before you have linked a turn — a rocker or flat board is the kinder first deck. Riders chasing explosive pop and a stiffer premium build: that is the Artifact Pro with its Carbon HotRod, not this softer Bamboo HotRod build.

Rome Artifact is a true twin park and jib snowboard built on full traditional camber, and it sits at the soft, forgiving end of Rome's twin lineup — a board made for butters, presses, switch riding and park laps all day. Rome rates it a 4 for flex, soft and playful on their Playful-to-Precise scale, and the shape is symmetrical end to end with a centered stance, so switch rides exactly like your regular direction. Waists run 251.5 mm at the 147 up to 268.7 mm at the 160W.
The camber is the part worth understanding. Rome's name for it is Stay Positive Camber — traditional camber running the full length of the board, not a rockered or flat profile. That gives the board real pop off a jump and an edge that holds when you set it, instead of the loose, washy feel of a rocker deck. Underfoot, a Bamboo HotRod stringer runs through the core to keep it pressable and lively, and Flax Impact Plates sit around the inserts to take the sting out of flat landings. The PowerSlide extruded base is made for rail and box abuse — durable and low upkeep rather than race-fast.
This is a park-first board that will still cruise the groomers, not a powder or high-speed all-mountain board — Rome maps it 9 for park, 6 for all-mountain, 4 for powder, and a soft twin with the stance dead center has nothing to lift the nose in deep snow. Eight lengths span the 147 through the 160W, and the wide sizes are 154W, 157W and 160W for larger boots. Boards ship as bare decks, so you will need bindings — we fit them and dial your sizing in the shop.

The Rome Artifact is the soft, playful, do-it-in-the-park end of Rome's true twin line, and the honest way to read it is by what Rome did and did not build into it. This is the base Artifact, not the Artifact Pro. It runs a Bamboo HotRod through the core — a bamboo stringer tuned for a pressable, forgiving pop — and carries no carbon and no titanal anywhere in the layup. Rome rates the flex a 4, soft and playful. That is the whole character in one line: a jib and park board you can bend, not a stiff plank you have to drive.
The Artifact's profile is where the pop comes from. Rome calls it Stay Positive Camber, which is traditional camber nose to tail — no rocker, no flat section. Full camber on a soft board is a deliberate trade: you get a snappy ollie and an edge that grips when you commit to it, in exchange for ends that stay live rather than washy. The Twin Double Kick gives nose and tail the same raised shape, so butters, presses and switch landings feel identical whichever way you ride. Flax Impact Plates around the inserts soak up flat landings, and the PowerSlide extruded base shrugs off boxes and rails and asks for very little wax.
On snow the Artifact reads like its terrain map — Park 9, All-Mountain 6, Powder 4. It is a park and jib daily driver that will lap groomers and side hits between park runs, and the soft flex makes it a friendly board to learn spins, butters and presses on. What it is not is a charger. A soft flex 4 on an extruded base is not built to stay calm at speed or damp out chop, and a centered true twin with no setback has nothing to float on when it gets deep. Ask it to bomb a big line or surf powder and it is the wrong board.
Inside Rome's own line the Artifact is the softer, simpler pick, and two boards beat it at things it was never built to do. The Artifact Pro is the one to reach for if you want explosive pop and a stiffer, higher-end build — it swaps this board's Bamboo HotRod for a Carbon HotRod, which is a punchier board for bigger jumps and faster laps. And any directional all-mountain or freeride board will out-float and out-hold it at speed and in deep snow, because that is the geometry the Artifact gives up to be a symmetrical park twin. Buy the Artifact because you want a soft, forgiving, switch-friendly park board — and because you do not need the Pro's extra pop and stiffness yet.

- Is the Artifact the same as the Artifact Pro?
- No — they are different boards, not width variants of each other. The base Artifact runs a Bamboo HotRod for a softer, more forgiving pop and carries no carbon or titanal. The Artifact Pro steps up to a Carbon HotRod and a stiffer, higher-end build for more explosive pop. If you want a soft, playful jib and park board, this is the one; if you want the punchier, stiffer deck for bigger jumps, look at the Pro.
- What size, and do I need a Wide?
- Lengths run from the 147 to the 160W, and 154W, 157W and 160W are wide sizes built for larger boots so they do not drag heel or toe. Pick your length off your weight and riding style and your width off your boot size — we will check both with you before you buy.
- Is the Artifact any good in powder?
- Not really, and it is fairer to say so. It is a centered true twin with no taper or setback, and Rome’s own terrain map scores it Powder 4. Above a bit of fresh snow the board sinks and there is nothing in the geometry to fix that — for deep days you want a directional board with float built in.
- Is the Artifact a good first snowboard?
- It can be, with one caveat. The soft flex is very forgiving, but Stay Positive is full traditional camber, and camber catches an edge more readily than a rocker or flat board if you have not linked your turns yet. If it is your very first day strapped in, a rockered board is the easier start; once you can link turns, the Artifact’s softness makes it a friendly board to progress on.
