Black Crows Octo Birdie

The take
“The carving ski that makes groomer days feel like an event, not a chore.”
The Octo Birdie is the women's version of Black Crows' swallowtail carver, sharing the same construction as the unisex Octo in shorter, lighter lengths. Same 84mm waist, same 14m radius, same poplar/fiberglass build, same distinctive swallowtail.
On groomed snow, it delivers quick, rhythmic short turns that feel almost automatic at 14m radius. The swallowtail gives each turn a little snap at the exit, making the ski feel energetic and alive. At 1,500g (161cm) it is noticeably light for all-day comfort.
Trade-offs mirror the unisex version: no metal means limited edge hold on ice, and it gets chattery at high speed. But for women who spend most time on groomed runs and want something with personality, the Octo Birdie is hard to beat.

These are DIN 4-11 bindings — a range that covers most intermediate-to-advanced skiers on a ski like this. Your own release setting is a technician's calculation from weight, height, age, boot sole length and skier type; body weight alone does not decide it. If yours lands above 11, you need a binding with a higher range.
