The take
“Light, lively, and sharp enough to make you look like a better skier.”
The Maven 86 C is Atomic's women's all-mountain ski with a carbon backbone instead of metal. That's the key design decision — carbon gives it snap and responsiveness without the weight of titanal. The result is a ski that's noticeably lighter and livelier than metal-laminate competitors like the Nordica Santa Ana 87.
75% camber with just 15% tip rocker and 10% tail rocker keeps it hardpack-capable. This is not a rocker-heavy floater — it carves. The 15.5m radius at 165 makes medium turns natural, and the edge hold is surprisingly good for a cap construction ski.
The poplar core is simple and effective. Light, poppy, not overly damp. The Carbon Backbone adds torsional stiffness where it matters — underfoot — without making the tips and tails rigid. It flexes progressively.
Four sizes from 147 to 169 covers most women. Compared to the Blizzard Black Pearl 88, the Maven is less damp and less stable at speed, but quicker edge-to-edge and more playful. Compared to the Santa Ana 87, it's significantly lighter and easier to ski, but gives up the edge hold and authority that titanal provides.
