Hestra Ferox CZone Jr Mitt

Appas is a polyester fabric that Hestra specifies as windproof, waterproof and breathable, and it covers the back of the hand. There's a PU grip in the palm. Under the shell sit the CZone insert, the Primaloft Gold insulation and a brushed polyester lining. Hestra's spec doesn't list the lining as removable.

The cuff is neoprene, and a Velcro closure tightens it. Attachment points take handcuffs, Hestra's word for wrist leashes. With leashes on, the mitt can hang from a kid's wrist instead of landing in the snow. Reflective details catch the light. And the whole mitt is machine washable, which matters with kids.

In a mitt, all four fingers share one compartment and warm each other. For kids whose fingers get cold, that's the main reason to choose one. Primaloft Gold insulation and the brushed polyester lining provide the warmth, and the CZone insert is the waterproof layer.

The trade-off is dexterity. Zippers and buckles are harder to work in a mitt, so expect to help with those at the start of the day.

If your kid needs separate fingers, the Ferox CZone Jr is the five-finger version. It has the same Appas backhand, PU grip in the palm, Primaloft Gold insulation, CZone insert, neoprene cuff and reflective details. The difference is the hand shape: every finger is separate there, while this mitt keeps the fingers in one shared compartment.
