Hestra CZone Mellow

Hestra specifies the Mistral backhand as windproof, waterproof and breathable. The palm is impregnated hairsheep leather. The CZone insert, the Primaloft Gold and a brushed polyester lining make up the inside, and the lining isn't listed as removable.

There are three features. Elastic at the wrist holds it snug. A Velcro closure at the cuff lets you tighten the opening. Attachment points take handcuffs, Hestra's term for wrist leashes. That's the whole list.

Primaloft Gold does the insulating, with a brushed polyester lining against the hand. Five separate fingers give more dexterity than a mitt. In exchange, each finger stays warm on its own instead of sharing heat with its neighbors. The CZone insert is the waterproof layer.

The Mistral backhand also blocks the wind: Hestra lists the fabric as windproof as well as waterproof and breathable. Elastic at the wrist and the Velcro closure at the cuff help close the gap where the glove meets your arm.

Black and Beige both come in Hestra sizes 6 through 11, the same run in either color. Hestra sizes are numbers rather than letters.

Pick the CZone Mellow if you want a simple unisex ski glove with a waterproof insert and separate fingers. Hestra puts it in its Alpine collection, gloves "developed with the recreational skier in mind."

If warmth matters more to you than dexterity, the CZone Mellow Mitt is this glove in a mitt shape. It uses the same Mistral backhand, hairsheep leather palm, Primaloft Gold and CZone insert, with all four fingers in one compartment.
