Description

The Hestra CZone Couloir is a five-finger leather-and-fabric ski glove with a waterproof CZone insert, for skiers who ski a lot and are hard on their gloves. It comes from Hestra's Alpine Pro collection. The backhand mixes HESTRA Dobby polyester/melange fabric with cowhide, the palm is goat leather, and foam plus G-Loft needle provide the insulation.

Hestra specifies the Dobby polyester/melange fabric as windproof, waterproof and breathable, and builds the backhand from that fabric and cowhide. Hestra calls cowhide "a durable leather with good impregnation properties" and says it "resists moisture and abrasion well." The palm is goat leather. The CZone insert and the foam and G-Loft needle insulation sit inside. The lining is brushed polyester and isn't listed as removable.

Handcuffs, Hestra's term for wrist leashes, are part of the spec, so the glove can hang from your wrist when it's off. A strap with a Velcro closure tightens the cuff. Elastic at the wrist keeps it snug, and a puller at the cuff helps you get the glove on. Hestra also lists Ergo Grip.

Insulation is a mix of foam and G-Loft needle, with a brushed polyester lining. Each of the five fingers sits in its own space. The trade-off is that the fingers don't share warmth the way they do in a mitt. Weather protection starts with the CZone insert, the glove's waterproof layer, and the windproof Dobby fabric on the back of the hand.

Charcoal/Blk comes in Hestra sizes 6 through 11. Mauve/Offwhite comes in 6 through 10.

Hestra says its Alpine Pro gloves are used by "freeriders, mountain guides, ski instructors and others who place high demands on their equipment," and describes them as gloves that "stand up to heavy wear and tear." The Couloir fits that brief for a skier who wants five free fingers, handcuffs and a waterproof insert.

If cold fingers are a bigger problem for you than dexterity, a mitt shape, where the fingers share warmth, is the better answer.
