Hestra Army Leather GORE-TEX Mitt

Impregnated Army goat leather makes up the palm. Hestra calls Army Leather a specially treated goat leather, originally used to make military gloves, that "withstands tough, outdoor conditions." The backhand is HESTRA Triton, a recycled polyamide fabric.

Along with the GORE-TEX ePE (PFC-free) insert, the build has G-Loft insulation and a Bemberg/polyester lining. Hestra's spec does not list the lining as removable. Elastic at the wrist keeps the fit snug, and there's a snow lock: an inner cuff that closes around the wrist. Handcuffs, meaning wrist leashes, hold the mitt to your wrist when it's off your hand. Hestra also lists a carabiner.

This mitt has a waterproof GORE-TEX insert. Hestra's spec also calls the Triton backhand windproof, waterproof and breathable, and Hestra says Army Leather's structural properties provide "effective protection against moisture."

Warmth comes from G-Loft and the mitt shape. Four fingers in one compartment share heat instead of each sitting in its own sleeve. You give up finger movement for it, since those four fingers move together.

Both colorways, Blk/Blk and Black/Natural Grey, come in sizes 6 to 11.

Pick it if you want a waterproof insert, mitt warmth and a leather palm in one piece of gear. It sits in Hestra's Alpine Pro collection, which Hestra says is used by "freeriders, mountain guides, ski instructors and others who place high demands on their equipment."

For separate fingers, the five-finger Army Leather GORE-TEX gives each finger its own sleeve. The Army Leather GORE-TEX 3-finger sits between the two: its index finger is separate, and the other three fingers share a compartment.
