Description
The Women's Burton Waverange X Pro Step On (26/27) is a women's Step On® snowboard boot with three independent BOA® dials, a heat-moldable Asym Life Liner and an Ankle Hammock inner cuff. Burton calls the flex a surfy mid-flex and labels it Happy Medium, but publishes no flex number or last width; it lists the boot in Regular and Wide across US women's 5 to 11, and this page carries Black in Regular 5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5 and 10 and Wide 7, 7.5, 8 and 8.5.
There are no binding straps: two toe cleats and a heel cleat click the boot into a Step On binding. Burton's Triple Zone BOA® Wrap gives three parts of the foot their own dial. One closes the upper cuff, one tensions the Ankle Hammock that holds the heel in its pocket, and one draws a wrap panel built on the liner across the instep. The shell is Burton's Waverange build, with a shorter backstay and a two-piece ankle panel split by a slit, which Burton says allow more side-to-side movement, plus an arch reinforcement narrower than the Highshot's for board feel. Underfoot is the X Pro Flex Vibram® outsole in EcoStep Plus rubber with 50% recycled content.
Burton places the Waverange X Pro at the top of its Waverange Step On line. It suits Step On riders after a soft, surfy feel and fine control over how the boot closes. It is the wrong boot for anyone keeping strap bindings, because Burton says Step On boots are only compatible with Step On bindings; Burton makes a separate strap-binding version.
Burton publishes no weight. Its women's Step On chart sizes the binding from the boot: US 5 to 6 takes a Small, 6.5 to 8.5 a Medium and 9 to 11 a Large. Burton warns that mismatched sizes will malfunction and that a women's boot must not be paired with a men's binding. Bring the socks you ride in: we measure your feet, heat-mold the liner and match the binding size to the boot.

Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On
2026/27
Flex
Happy Medium, the middle of Burton's three Personality labels (Soft & Playful, Happy Medium, Stiff & Aggressive). Burton calls it a surfy mid-flex and gives no flex number.
Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.
Choosing between Burton's two top-tier women's Step On boots, this Women's Waverange X Pro Step On and the women's Highshot X Pro Step On, is a stiffness decision, not a fit decision. Both carry the three-dial wrap, the Asym Life Liner and the Ankle Hammock, so lacing and liner are not the reason to pick one. Burton calls the Highshot X Pro firm: a rider who wants the boot to push back on hard carves should take it, and this one is for riders who would rather the boot give.
The Waverange X Pro Step On justifies its third dial for riders who want the instep tuned apart from the cuff and heel. Burton's women's Waverange X Step On already pairs Dual-Zone BOA with an internal ankle hammock; the X Pro breaks the instep out onto a dial of its own. A rider who keeps trading a pinched instep for a loose heel gains real tuning here. A rider who is already happy on two zones gains little, and one who wants a single dial has the women's Waverange Step On and its Sequence BOA.
Outside evidence for the Waverange X Pro Step On comes from one site's two male testers on the men's 25/26 version, whose Burton spec list names the same liner, inner cuff, outsole and three-dial lacing. That review rated adjustability great, the Vibram traction excellent and heel hold good, and found lateral flex close to a strap-binding boot. The review also called it very soft, with very little response, rated flex retention poor and rated shock absorption average, a massive step down from most other Burton boots. It read the boot as mainly for park and warned that its thick heel loop can drag for hard carvers. The same site found the men's Highshot X Pro a good bit stiffer.
Heel comfort is the sharpest caution for the Waverange X Pro Step On. On harder toe-side turns, one men's tester's boot folded forward and pressed his heel into the hard plastic around the Step On heel, and he called the pain unbearable. The review adds that the ankle support caused a pressure point. Length evidence conflicted too: the review's table says true to size, one tester found it a little long and the other wanted to size up. Women's sizing is its own run, so measure, try it on and match the binding letter on Burton's women's Step On chart.
Burton's 25/26 and 26/27 pages for the Women's Waverange X Pro Step On list the same lacing, liner, inner cuff, outsole, DRYRIDE lining and Happy Medium label. The 26/27 page shows Black and Dried Moss / Multi and rewords the flex from softer mid-flex to surfy mid-flex. Burton publishes no change list, so the 25/26 boot is a fair guide to this one.
Fit
Women's US sizing, Regular and Wide on this listing
Burton publishes no last name, last width or volume figure for this boot. Burton makes Regular and Wide versions; this listing carries Regular in 10 sizes and Wide in 4, and only US 7 to 8.5 come in both widths here.
Snowboard boots are sized by foot length, not a shell-width figure.
Closure
Triple Zone BOA® Wrap (Burton BOA® Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap)
Liner
Asym Life Liner — heat-moldable foam with an asymmetric wrap cuff and DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining
Outsole
X Pro Flex Vibram® Step On® Outsole, Vibram® EcoStep Plus rubber
Technology
Step On®
A strapless boot-to-binding connection: two toe cleats and a heel cleat lock the boot into a Step On® binding. Burton pitches it as riding the moment you are off the lift.
Triple Zone BOA® Wrap
Three independent BOA® dials for the upper cuff, the Ankle Hammock and the forefoot. Burton's lacing card calls it the Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap and describes a micro-adjustable, zonal fit that locks in the heel; Burton says the forefoot dial controls a wrapping panel built directly on the liner, over the top of the foot.
Ankle Hammock
An inner cuff that holds the heel into the heel pocket, tensioned by its own external BOA® dial so it can be adjusted on the mountain.
Asym Life Liner
A lightweight, heat-moldable foam liner with an asymmetric wrap cuff and hook-and-loop closure. Its DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining manages sweat and reflects body heat inward, per Burton.
X Pro Flex Vibram® Step On® Outsole
Vibram® EcoStep Plus rubber with 50% recycled rubber content. Burton says it balances traction and durability while cutting weight.
Waverange shell
Burton gives the Waverange a shorter backstay and a split, two-piece ankle panel, which it says allows greater articulation and side-to-side movement, and an arch reinforcement narrower than the Highshot's, which Burton credits with enhanced board feel.
Cuff Clip
A clip on the back of the boot that holds the pant cuff.
Features
- ·DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ Lining
Strengths
- +Three separate BOA dials tune the cuff, heel hold and instep
- +A slit two-piece ankle panel lets the shell flex side to side
- +A review rated the men's version's Vibram traction excellent
- +The heat-moldable Asym Life Liner has an asymmetric wrap cuff
- +This listing carries Wide versions in US women's 7 to 8.5
Best For
Women on, or moving to, women's Step On bindings who want a soft, surfy boot with an articulating ankle and the cuff, heel hold and instep each set on its own dial. Going by the men's 25/26 test, freestyle and park-leaning riders who like board feel and side-to-side flex suit it, and so do riders who need a Wide in US women's 7 to 8.5.
Limitations
- −Burton's Step On boots work only with Step On bindings
- −A review found the men's version very soft with little response
- −A review rated the men's version's flex retention poor
- −A men's tester felt heel pain against the Step On plastic
- −Length reports on the men's version disagree, so try it on
Not For
Not for strap-binding riders: Burton states that its Step On boots pair only with Step On bindings, and the strap-binding women's Waverange X Pro is a different Burton boot. Not for hard carving and speed, where the men's version tested very soft with little response and Burton calls its women's Highshot X Pro firm. Not for riders who need the flex to hold up over seasons of hard use, since the men's 25/26 test rated flex retention poor. Not for riders with a sensitive heel or Achilles who cannot try the boot on first, since one men's tester's heel hurt on hard toe-side turns. Not for riders who want one quick dial. And not for pairing with a men's Step On binding, since Burton warns that combining men's and women's Step On products will malfunction.

Common Questions
- Burton Women's Waverange X Pro vs Highshot X Pro Step On: what is the difference?
- Burton's Women's Waverange X Pro and Highshot X Pro Step On share the three-dial BOA wrap, Asym Life Liner and Ankle Hammock. The Waverange X Pro uses a shorter backstay, a slit ankle panel and the Flex Vibram outsole, and Burton calls it a surfy mid-flex; the Highshot X Pro uses a taller backstay, a one-piece shell and the Firm Vibram outsole, and Burton calls it firm.
- Burton Women's Waverange X Pro vs Waverange X Step On: what is the difference?
- The Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On uses three separate BOA dials, adding a forefoot zone that tightens a liner-mounted wrap across the instep. Burton's women's Waverange X Step On uses Dual-Zone BOA, adjusting the upper and lower boot independently with an internal ankle hammock, and it rides the X Flex Vibram outsole with 30% recycled content, against 50% in this boot's X Pro Flex. Pick the X Pro if you want the instep tuned on its own dial.
- What size Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On should I get?
- Size the Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On by foot length, then try it on: for the men's 25/26 version, the review's table says true to size, while one tester felt it ran a little long and the other asked for a bigger size. This listing runs US women's 5 to 10, with Wide in 7 to 8.5. Burton's women's Step On chart then sizes the binding.
- Is the Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On good for beginners?
- Burton gives the Women's Waverange X Pro Step On no rider level; it describes a surfy mid-flex with a Happy Medium Personality label. PTO reads it as a boot for intermediate and better riders who want fine fit control. Three dials are more tuning than most first-season riders use, and Burton's single-dial women's Waverange Step On is the simpler entry.
- Does the Burton Women's Waverange X Pro Step On work with strap bindings?
- No: Burton says its Step On boots, the Women's Waverange X Pro Step On included, work only with Step On bindings, and Burton sells a strap-binding women's Waverange X Pro as a separate boot. Burton also warns that mismatched sizes, or men's and women's Step On products combined, will malfunction. A PTO technician helps match the women's Step On binding size to your boot at fitting.
- Burton Women's vs Men's Waverange X Pro Step On: are they the same boot?
- Burton's spec lists for the Women's and Men's Waverange X Pro Step On name the same parts: a three-dial BOA wrap, Asym Life Liner, Ankle Hammock, X Pro Flex Vibram outsole and DRYRIDE lining. The women's boot pairs only with women's Step On bindings and is sized on Burton's women's chart, which runs from 5 to 11. Burton publishes no last width for the women's boot.
