Description
Burton's Step On Escapade EST is a women's snowboard binding that pairs strapless Step On entry with a Kickback Hammock hi-back on Burton's EST mount. It fits boards with The Channel alone and takes women's Step On boots alone, and Burton rates it Happy Medium, the middle of its three Personality tiers, in words rather than a flex number.
Two hooks at the toe and a clip at the heel lock the boot in, and a lever on the side of the heel cup releases it; Burton's manual says the binding itself is not designed to release. EST fastens the baseplate directly to The Channel, skips the disc and adds a cushioning footbed; Burton says it gives unrestricted stance options. In the hi-back, a spring-tensioned molded hammock adds response, comfort and less vibration, per Burton, and a DialFLAD dial sets forward lean. The single-component baseplate carries 18% short glass in its nylon composite, where Burton lists 30% for both the strap Escapade EST and its Step On Lexa X EST. The 26/27 Tech Specs match the 25/26 version; the colors and tagline changed.
It suits riders who already own a Channel board and women's Step On boots. On a 4x4, 2x4 or 3D insert board it will not mount; Burton's Step On Escapade Re:Flex keeps the hammock, the 18% baseplate, the dial and the tier and bolts to 4x4, 2x4 or Channel boards; 3D boards also need a 3D Hinge Disc, sold separately. In standard strap boots, Burton's women's Escapade EST offers the same EST mount and hammock with two straps. Burton's Step On Lexa X EST covers the Stiff & Aggressive tier on EST.
Size it from your boot, not your weight: S takes US women's 5-6, M 6.5-8.5 and L 9-11, and Burton says a women's binding needs a women's boot. We can match the binding size to your Step On boot and check that your board has The Channel. On boards bought from us, we set the Gas Pedal to your boot and mount the binding at your stance and angles.

Flex
Happy Medium
This is the brand’s own wording, not a number, and it does not compare across brands.
The Burton Step On Escapade EST is two lock-ins stacked together. Step On decides which boots fit, and EST decides which boards fit. Without women's Step On boots and a board with The Channel, it does not work at all. With both, it gives you the Escapade's Kickback Hammock hi-back in Burton's Happy Medium tier, with a cushioning footbed where a Re:Flex binding carries a disc.
PTO's read on the Step On Escapade EST: this is a middle-tier binding built around comfort parts, not a stiff one. Burton's Happy Medium text promises pop for features and edge hold to carve, and we see it suiting riders already linking turns around the mountain who want to click in at the top of the lift. Burton prints no level rating, no flex number and no weight for it, so a shopper comparing grams or stiffness numbers gets nothing from Burton to compare.
Within Burton's women's range, the Step On Escapade Re:Flex is the insert-board version: the same hammock, baseplate figure, dial and tier on a Re:Flex mount, for which Burton names 4x4, 2x4 and The Channel. The strap Escapade EST keeps the EST mount, hammock and tier for standard boots, with PodBED cushioning. The Step On Lexa X EST stays on Step On and EST but moves to Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier, with SensoryBED cushioning and no Kickback Hammock on its page.
For 26/27, Burton's Tech Specs for the Step On Escapade EST match the 25/26 version row for row: EST, 18% short-glass/nylon composite, Kickback Hammock, DialFLAD and Happy Medium. What changed is the color range and the tagline wording.
Boot and board decide whether the Step On Escapade EST works for you, so check both first. Burton says Step On bindings take Step On boots alone and that men's and women's Step On products must not be mixed, since mismatched pairs can malfunction. Size runs from the boot: S fits US women's 5 to 6, M 6.5 to 8.5 and L 9 to 11. Burton's manual also states that this kind of binding is not built to release. The EST manual has the Gas Pedal set to boot size before mounting; on boards bought from us, our technician sets it and mounts the binding.

Technology
EST mounting
Burton's disc-free mount: the baseplate bolts into The Channel with no hardware underfoot and a cushioning footbed in its place. Burton says EST improves board feel, gives unrestricted stance options and works only on Channel boards.
Kickback Hammock
The Escapade's suspended hi-back: a molded hammock held under internal spring tension inside the hi-back frame, which Burton says increases response, reduces vibration and adds comfort.
Step On connection
Burton's three-point connection: two toe hooks, one heel clip and a release lever on the heel cup that resets itself. Per Burton's manual, Step On bindings are not designed to release or to prevent injury.
DialFLAD
A dial on the hi-back that sets forward lean, tool-free per Burton's Step On EST manual. Burton says more lean gives a quicker response and less lean a more relaxed one.
Single-Component Baseplate
A baseplate made of one material throughout, here an 18% short-glass/nylon composite. Burton says it keeps natural side-to-side movement, which cuts fatigue and makes ollies easier.
Gas Pedal
An adjustable toe ramp. Burton's Step On EST manual says to set it to your boot size with two screws under the baseplate before mounting, to cut toe drag and help the toe connection engage.
Two-position heel clip
Burton's manual gives the heel clip a first position that locks even with snow under the boot and a final riding position reached with additional pressure on the heel. Burton says both hold fully; position one can allow more boot movement.

Best For
Riders in, or buying, women's Step On boots whose board has The Channel and who want the Escapade's Kickback Hammock hi-back in Burton's Happy Medium tier, with dial-set forward lean.
Limitations
- −Mounts only on boards with Burton's Channel, per Burton.
- −Only women's Step On boots work in this binding, per Burton.
- −Burton publishes no weight or numeric flex for this binding.
- −Burton's middle tier; its stiffer women's Step On EST is the Lexa X EST.
Not For
Anyone whose board has 4x4, 2x4 or 3D inserts: EST mounts only on The Channel. The Re:Flex-mount Step On Escapade fits 4x4, 2x4 and Channel boards, and 3D boards only with Burton's separately sold 3D Hinge Disc. Anyone without women's Step On boots: Burton says this women's Step On binding takes women's Step On boots only, and mixing men's and women's Step On products can malfunction; the strap Escapade EST takes standard boots. Riders who want Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier on EST, who should look at the Step On Lexa X EST. And shoppers who want a published weight or flex number, since Burton prints neither for this binding.

Common Questions
- Burton Step On Escapade EST vs Step On Escapade Re:Flex: what is the difference?
- The Burton Step On Escapade EST mounts with EST, which fits only boards with The Channel, while the Step On Escapade Re:Flex uses a Re:Flex mount that Burton lists for 4x4, 2x4 and Channel boards. Burton gives both the Kickback Hammock hi-back, an 18% short-glass/nylon baseplate, DialFLAD and the Happy Medium tier.
- Will the Burton Step On Escapade EST fit my board?
- The Burton Step On Escapade EST mounts only on boards with The Channel, Burton's own mounting system. Boards with 4x4, 2x4 or 3D inserts cannot take it. The Step On Escapade Re:Flex mounts on 4x4 and 2x4 boards, and on 3D boards with Burton's separately sold 3D Hinge Disc. We can check whether your board has The Channel, and on boards bought from us a technician mounts the binding.
- Does the Burton Step On Escapade EST work with regular snowboard boots?
- No. Burton says the Step On Escapade EST is compatible only with Step On boots, and women's Step On boots must go in women's Step On bindings. For standard strap boots on a Channel board, Burton's women's Escapade EST keeps the EST mount, Kickback Hammock and Happy Medium tier with two straps.
- What size Burton Step On Escapade EST should I get?
- Burton sizes the Step On Escapade EST by women's Step On boot. Its chart puts S at US women's 5-6, M at 6.5-8.5 and L at 9-11, with no overlap between sizes. We match the binding to your boot when you buy.
- Is the Burton Step On Escapade EST good for beginners?
- The Burton Step On Escapade EST sits in Burton's middle Personality tier, Happy Medium, and PTO reads it as a fit for riders already linking turns around the mountain. Burton gives it no level rating. Newer riders still get strap-free Step On entry, as long as the board has The Channel.
- Burton Step On Escapade EST 2027 vs 2026: what changed?
- The Burton Step On Escapade EST 2027 lists the same Tech Specs as the 2026 version: EST mount, 18% short-glass/nylon baseplate, Kickback Hammock, DialFLAD and Happy Medium tier. Burton changed the colors to Purple Voltage, White / Dried Moss, Black and White, and reworded the tagline.
