Description
The Burton Escapade EST is a women's two-strap snowboard binding for boards with Burton's Channel mounting system, built for cushioned comfort over long days. It mounts with EST, which fits The Channel alone, and Burton rates it Happy Medium, the middle step of its three-step Personality scale; there is no flex number to quote.
EST does away with the mounting disc. Each binding bolts into The Channel at two outboard points, so no hardware sits under your foot, and Burton pairs that with a cushioning footbed for board feel and open stance options. On top of that sits PodBED Cushioning, which Burton says appears on the Escapade EST alone and credits with easing common pressure points and holding up in the cold. The Kickback Hammock hi-back holds a molded hammock under internal spring tension against its frame, which Burton links to more response and less vibration. The baseplate is a single-component 30% short-glass/nylon composite. A Hammockstrap ankle strap, a Supergrip Capstrap 2.0 toe strap and Double Take buckles finish the build, and forward lean on the hi-back is adjustable.
Burton pitches the Escapade as a balance of high-end comfort and a playful feel. That suits women on Channel boards who ride the whole mountain and care more about comfort than maximum stiffness. It is the wrong binding for any board without The Channel: Burton says EST will not go on 2x4, 4x4 or 3D patterns, and Channel boards built before 2010 need M5 hardware that Burton has stopped producing. Weight is not something Burton lists.
Size by boot, not weight: on Burton's women's chart, M runs US 6 to 8 and L runs from US 8 up, and those are the two sizes offered on this listing. We help you choose between them, and a technician checks your board's Channel hardware and the fit before mounting.

Happy Medium
This is the brand’s own wording, not a number, and it does not compare across brands.
The Burton Escapade EST is Burton's women's strap binding on its disc-free EST mount, and the mount needs settling before anything else. EST goes on The Channel only; Burton says it is not compatible with 2x4, 4x4 or 3D hole patterns. If every board in the quiver has The Channel, that limit never comes up. If one board lacks it, the Escapade EST cannot go on that board at all.
Happy Medium is the Escapade EST's tier, the middle of Burton's three Personality labels; Burton's text for that tier promises some pop for features and edge hold for carving. Burton also calls the Escapade slightly softer and more playful than the Lexa bindings, without naming which Lexa. The baseplate is one material throughout, a 30% short-glass/nylon composite. Burton publishes no weight and no flex number.
The Escapade EST has three close relatives in Burton's 26/27 range. The Escapade Re:Flex keeps the same tier, hammock hi-back, straps, buckles and 30% baseplate on Re:Flex mounting, which Burton calls compatible with all board mounting options, though 3D boards need a 3D Hinge Disc that is not included; its page does not list PodBED. For a quiver that mixes Channel and insert boards, the Re:Flex version is the safer pick. The Lexa X EST shares the EST mount but sits in Stiff & Aggressive, with a Heel Hammock and DialFLAD, so it is the women's EST strap binding to choose for more stiffness. The Step On Escapade EST keeps the hammock hi-back and tier for Step On boots.
One detail on the page does not line up. The Tech Specs list MicroFLAD, Burton's lever-and-sliding-plate lean adjuster, while a feature line describes a dial you turn. Forward lean adjusts either way; we confirm which hardware is on the binding at fitting.
Sizing for the Escapade EST follows the boot: M covers US women's 6 to 8 and L starts at 8, and Burton gives no rule for a boot right at 8. Pre-2010 Channel boards use the narrower M5 Channel, and Burton no longer makes M5 inserts. Bring the board and boots, and our technician checks the Channel hardware and fit before mounting.
Technology
EST
Burton's disc-free mounting: it attaches at two outboard mounting points in The Channel, so no hardware sits underfoot. Burton says EST adds a cushioning footbed for board feel and unrestricted stance options, and works only on boards with The Channel.
PodBED Cushioning
Cushioning that Burton says is found only on the Escapade EST and that reduces common pressure points, holds up to cold temperatures and stays comfortable all day, all season. Burton does not describe its material or layout.
Kickback Hammock
Burton's suspended hi-back: internal spring tension between a molded hammock and the hi-back frame, which Burton says increases response and reduces vibration.
Single-Component Baseplate
One material throughout, which Burton says gives consistent response and feel. The spec table names it: short-glass/nylon composite at 30%.
Double Take Buckles
Buckles with dual-sided tongue teeth that Burton says engage quicker and take up the strap faster, so it takes fewer cranks to tighten.
Supergrip Capstrap 2.0
A toe strap that wraps across the whole toe of the boot and, Burton says, pulls it down and back into the heel cup, with dual-texture over-molding for grip.
Features
- ·Hammockstrap ankle strap
- ·Adjustable forward lean
- ·Includes reground materials
Strengths
- +Two outboard EST mounting points leave no hardware underfoot.
- +PodBED cushioning targets common pressure points, per Burton.
- +Kickback Hammock hi-back uses spring tension to cut vibration, per Burton.
- +Stance adjusts by loosening two screws per binding.
Best For
Women on strap boots and Channel boards who want Burton's Happy Medium tier with PodBED cushioning and a Kickback Hammock hi-back, in a boot inside Burton's women's M (US 6-8) or L (US 8+) range.
Limitations
- −EST fits only Channel boards, not 2x4, 4x4 or 3D.
- −Burton no longer makes M5 inserts for pre-2010 Channel boards.
- −Burton publishes no weight or numeric flex for the Escapade EST.
- −Burton's page lists MicroFLAD but also describes a lean dial.
Not For
Anyone whose board lacks The Channel: Burton says EST cannot use 2x4, 4x4 or 3D inserts, and Channel boards made before 2010 need M5 inserts Burton has stopped making. Riders who switch between Channel and insert boards; the Escapade Re:Flex puts the same tier and hi-back on Re:Flex mounting. Riders who want Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier, which the Lexa X EST covers on EST. Riders in Step On boots, who want the Step On Escapade EST. And anyone needing size S, since M and L are the two sizes here.

Common Questions
- Burton Escapade EST vs Escapade Re:Flex: what is the difference?
- The Burton Escapade EST and Escapade Re:Flex share the Happy Medium tier, Kickback Hammock hi-back, straps and 30% baseplate; the mount is the main difference. The EST bolts straight into The Channel with no disc and fits Channel boards alone, and Burton lists PodBED cushioning on it. The Re:Flex uses Re:Flex mounting, which Burton says fits all board mounting options, with a 3D Hinge Disc, not included, for 3D boards.
- Burton Escapade EST vs Lexa X EST: which is stiffer?
- The Burton Escapade EST is the softer of the two: Burton puts it in the middle Happy Medium tier and rates the Lexa X EST Stiff & Aggressive. Both use EST and a 30% short-glass/nylon baseplate. The Lexa X EST adds a Heel Hammock and DialFLAD, while the Escapade EST runs a Kickback Hammock and PodBED cushioning.
- Will the Burton Escapade EST fit my snowboard?
- The Burton Escapade EST fits boards with The Channel; Burton says EST is not compatible with 4x2, 4x4 or 3D hole patterns. Channel boards made before 2010 use the narrower M5 Channel and need M5 inserts, which Burton no longer makes. Tell us your board model and our technician confirms the hardware before mounting.
- What size Burton Escapade EST should I get?
- Size the Burton Escapade EST from your boot, not your weight. Burton's women's chart puts M at US women's 6-8 (EU 36.5-40) and L at US women's 8 and up (EU 40+), with no published rule for a boot right at 8. This listing carries M and L, and we help you pick between them from your boot.
- Is the Burton Escapade EST good for beginners?
- The Burton Escapade EST sits in Burton's middle Happy Medium tier, and Burton gives it no level rating. PTO reads it as a fit for women already riding the whole mountain. Burton's own tier text ties learning the basics to its softer Soft & Playful tier.
