Description
The Burton Men's Waverange X (26/27) is a strap-binding snowboard boot built around a separate heel dial: one dial closes the shell and a second BOA® dial cinches an internal ankle hammock, over a heat-moldable Asym Imprint™ 3 liner. Burton calls the flex a softer mid-flex and labels it Happy Medium, but publishes no flex number or last width, and builds it in Regular and Wide from US men's 6 to 15; this page carries Black in Regular US 9 to 15 and in selected Wide sizes from US 9 to 14.
Burton describes the Waverange X as a totally new design and ties its performance to the earlier Men's Swath. The defining part is the Dual Zone BOA® w/ Internal Hammock. The Ankle Hammock is an inner cuff that holds the heel down into the heel pocket, and it runs on its own external dial, apart from the shell. The liner closes with hook-and-loop and an inner lace lock, adds lightweight power panels, and has an asymmetric wrap cuff Burton says fits varied leg shapes. The X Flex Vibram® outsole uses EcoStep rubber with traction lugs and 30% recycled content.
Burton's Happy Medium label is written for riders who like a bit of everything, and its own words for this boot are surfy, fluid and playful. Read it as an all-mountain boot for riders past their first turns who rank comfort and a locked heel above stiffness. It is the wrong boot for anyone on Step On: Burton says its Step On bindings work only with Step On boots, and Burton sells the Step On version of the Waverange X as its own boot.
Burton lists no weight or binding size chart for this model. Bring your riding socks and we will measure your feet for length and width, heat-mold the liner, check the boot in your strap binding, and set the bindings up on a board bought from us.

Burton Men's Waverange X
2026/27
Flex
Happy Medium, the middle of Burton's three-step Personality scale: Soft & Playful, Happy Medium, Stiff & Aggressive. Burton calls the flex a softer mid-flex.
Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.
Burton's 26/27 men's Waverange X is a two-dial strap boot, and its two dials do not divide the boot into upper and lower zones. One dial closes the entire shell; the other pulls only the Ankle Hammock around the heel. That lets a rider lock the heel without squeezing the instep, but the toes and the upper shell cannot be tensioned separately. The strap Waverange X Pro splits the shell into forefoot and cuff zones on separate dials, keeps the hammock on a third, and uses the Asym Life Liner, Burton's self-described best liner. The Waverange X Step On is a separate boot for Step On bindings; Burton's 26/27 specs give it the same lacing, Ankle Hammock and liner names on a Step On outsole.
PTO does not read the Waverange X as a charging boot. Burton's own words for it are softer mid-flex, surfy and playful, under the Happy Medium label. For a rider who wants a firm boot at speed, PTO's starting point is the Ion BOA, which Burton describes with a firm flex for full-speed-ahead charging.
Burton lines up the Waverange X's performance with the previous Men's Swath, which matters to Swath owners replacing a worn pair. Aligned performance is not the same parts list. The Swath BOA closes upper and lower zones on two dials, holds the ankle with a Focus Cuff and rides a DynoBITE outsole; the Waverange X moves to the shell-plus-hammock layout, the Ankle Hammock and a Vibram outsole. Burton's alignment speaks to performance, so try the fit rather than assume it carries over.
One retailer's bootfitter, writing about the 2027 Waverange X, says the hammock does an outstanding job locking the heel in, that the forefoot stays neutral enough to keep toes from feeling cramped after a full day, and calls the boot a well-rounded medium flex. That is a seller's view of a boot it sells, so weigh it as one opinion.
For sizing, the Waverange X follows Burton's men's chart: US 10 converts to Mondo 28 and US 12 to Mondo 30. Burton gives no last width but builds Regular and Wide, and the Regular sizes here start at US 9, with a partial Wide run alongside. Measure both feet and try the boot on before settling on your usual size.
Fit
Men's US sizing, Regular and Wide on this listing
Burton publishes no last name, last width or volume figure for the Waverange X. Burton makes Regular and Wide from US 6 through 15; on this listing, Regular runs US 9 through 15 and Wide covers US 9, 9.5, 10.5, 11, 13 and 14.
Snowboard boots are sized by foot length, not a shell-width figure.
Closure
Dual Zone BOA® w/ Internal Hammock
Liner
Asym Imprint™ 3 — heat-moldable, with an asymmetric wrap cuff and hook-and-loop closure
Outsole
X Flex Vibram® outsole in Vibram® EcoStep rubber
Technology
Dual Zone BOA® w/ Internal Hammock
Two external BOA® dials. One closes the shell; the second, independent dial cinches an internal hammock around the ankle, which Burton says locks the heel in place.
Ankle Hammock
An inner cuff that holds the heel into the boot heel pocket, tensioned by an external BOA® dial so it can be adjusted on the mountain, in Burton's description.
Asym Imprint™ 3 Liner
A heat-moldable liner with moisture management, a hook-and-loop closure with an inner lace lock and lightweight power panels. Burton says its asymmetric wrap cuff gives a secure fit on a variety of leg shapes.
X Flex Vibram® Outsole
A Vibram® outsole in EcoStep rubber, 30% of it recycled, with lugs for grip. Burton designed it to complement the performance of the Waverange X.
Features
- ·DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ Lining
Strengths
- +The Ankle Hammock sets heel hold on its own BOA dial
- +The liner adds an inner lace lock and lightweight power panels
- +The heat-moldable Asym Imprint 3 liner has an asymmetric wrap cuff
- +The Vibram EcoStep outsole uses 30% recycled rubber
- +This listing carries both Regular and Wide widths
Best For
Strap-binding riders who want heel hold set on its own dial, apart from shell closure, and who ride the whole mountain with some park in a mid-flex boot. Riders who put comfort and heel hold before stiffness, and riders who need one of the Wide sizes listed here.
Limitations
- −Burton calls it a softer mid-flex; it is not a charging boot
- −One shell dial cannot set the forefoot and upper separately
- −It will not fit Step On bindings, which need Step On boots
- −Burton publishes no weight, last width or flex number
- −This listing starts at US 9, with no smaller sizes
Not For
Not for Step On riders: this is the strap-binding boot, and Burton builds the Waverange X Step On separately. Not for riders who want a firm boot for charging at speed; Burton calls this one a softer mid-flex, and PTO would start those riders on the Ion BOA, a boot Burton gives firm-flex wording. Not for riders who want the toes loose and the upper firm, since one dial runs the whole shell; the Waverange X Pro splits it. And not for anyone under US 9 on this page, or anyone who cannot try it on, because Burton gives no last width.

Common Questions
- Burton Waverange X vs Waverange X Pro: what is the difference?
- The Burton Waverange X uses two BOA dials, one for the whole shell and one for the internal ankle hammock, with an Asym Imprint 3 liner. The strap Waverange X Pro uses three dials, for the forefoot, the ankle hammock and the upper cuff, plus the Asym Life Liner. Burton gives both boots the Happy Medium label.
- What size Burton Waverange X should I get?
- Size the Burton Waverange X by foot length on Burton's men's chart: US 10 is Mondo 28 and US 12 is Mondo 30. Burton builds Regular and Wide but publishes no last width, and this page carries Regular from US 9 to 15 and six Wide sizes between US 9 and 14. We measure both feet in the shop before you pick a size.
- Is the Burton Waverange X good for beginners?
- Burton gives the Waverange X no rider level; its page describes a softer mid-flex under the Happy Medium personality, a label Burton pitches at riders who mix terrain. PTO reads it as a comfort-first boot for the whole mountain, suited to riders beyond their first days, with two dials to set rather than the X Pro's three. Try it on in the shop before choosing.
- Does the Burton Waverange X work with Step On bindings?
- No. The Burton Waverange X is the strap-binding version, and Burton says Step On bindings are only compatible with Step On boots; the Waverange X Step On is the Step On model. Burton lists no strap-binding compatibility chart for this boot, so a PTO technician checks it in your binding at fitting.
- Burton Waverange X vs Swath: how do they compare?
- Burton says the Waverange X's performance is aligned with the previous Men's Swath, and both carry the Happy Medium label. The parts differ: the Swath BOA uses upper and lower BOA zones, a Focus Cuff and a DynoBITE outsole, while the Waverange X uses a shell dial, an Ankle Hammock dial and a Vibram outsole. Try the fit rather than assume it matches.
