Description
The Burton Men's Waverange X Pro (26/27) is a strap-binding snowboard boot that splits its fit into three independently tensioned BOA® zones, at the forefoot, the ankle hammock and the cuff, over a heat-moldable Asym Life Liner. Burton calls the flex a surfy mid-flex and labels it Happy Medium, but publishes no flex number or last width, and builds it in Regular and Wide from US men's 6 to 15; this page carries Black in Regular and Wide sizes between US 6 and 15.
Burton's BOA® Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap gives each zone its own dial. One tightens the front of the foot, one sets the upper cuff, and the third pulls the Ankle Hammock, an inner cuff Burton designed to hold the heel into the heel pocket and to adjust on the fly on the mountain. So the toes can stay relaxed while the heel is held down hard. The Asym Life Liner closes with an asymmetric wrap cuff and hook-and-loop, and its DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining is meant to manage sweat and reflect body heat back in. Underfoot, the X Pro Flex Vibram® outsole uses EcoStep+ rubber with 50% recycled content, with material removed where Burton says it is not needed, to cut weight.
Burton pitches the flex as playful in the park and on side hits, and its Happy Medium label is written for riders who like a bit of everything. Read it as an all-mountain boot for riders past the basics who put fit ahead of stiffness. It is the wrong boot for anyone on Step On: Burton says its Step On bindings work only with Step On boots, and it sells a Step On version of the Waverange X Pro separately.
Burton lists no weight and no binding size chart for this boot. Bring the socks you ride in: we measure your feet for length and width, heat-mold the liner, check the boot in your strap binding, and set the bindings up on a board bought from us.

Burton Men's Waverange X Pro
2026/27
Flex
Happy Medium, the middle of Burton's three-step Personality scale: Soft & Playful, Happy Medium, Stiff & Aggressive. Burton calls the flex surfy mid-flex.
Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.
Within Burton's 26/27 strap boots, the men's Waverange X Pro is the three-dial step up from the Waverange X. The Waverange X runs Dual Zone BOA with an internal hammock: one dial closes the shell and one pulls the hammock, so a rider who wants fewer dials to set is better served by the Waverange X. The X Pro splits the shell into separate forefoot and cuff zones, keeps the hammock on a third dial, and swaps the Asym Imprint 3 liner for the Asym Life Liner, which Burton calls the best liner it makes. Burton's 26/27 pages call the Waverange X a softer mid-flex aligned to the earlier Swath and the X Pro a surfy mid-flex, give both the Happy Medium label, and print no flex figure for the X Pro.
PTO does not read the Waverange X Pro as a charging boot. Burton uses firm-flex, full-speed-ahead wording on the Ion BOA, and PTO's pick for a rider who wants a stiff boot for speed is to start there.
Outside reads of the Waverange X Pro pull in two directions. A retailer's bootfitter, writing about the 2027 strap boot, calls heel and ankle hold excellent, the toe box neutral, and the flex supportive enough to drive powerful boards and carve hard without being Burton's stiffest. An independent review of the 25/26 Waverange X Pro Step On, which shares the three-dial layout but not the sole or heel, found that boot one of the softest its tester had tried, with little response and poor flex retention, and rated the ankle support on its dial not very supportive. The Achilles pain in that review came from the plastic that holds the Step On attachment, a part of the Step On version only.
For sizing, the Waverange X Pro follows Burton's men's chart, so a US 10 converts to Mondo 28 and a US 11 to Mondo 29. Burton lists no last width, but it builds Regular and Wide, and this page carries both. The two testers in the Step On review disagreed on fit: one found it a little long, the other found his 12s narrow and short. Measure and try it on before settling on your usual size. The same review notes that the three dials take longer to put on than many BOA boots, the price of tuning each zone.
Fit
Men's US sizing, Regular and Wide on this listing
Burton publishes no last name, last width or volume figure for the Waverange X Pro. Regular and Wide are both made from US 6 through 15, and this listing carries sizes in both widths.
Snowboard boots are sized by foot length, not a shell-width figure.
Closure
BOA® Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap
Liner
Asym Life Liner — heat-moldable, with an asymmetric wrap cuff and DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining
Outsole
X Pro Flex Vibram® outsole in Vibram® EcoStep+ rubber
Technology
BOA® Triple Dial PerformFit™ Wrap
Three BOA® dials, each tensioning its own zone: the forefoot, the ankle hammock and the upper cuff. Burton describes a micro-adjustable, zonal fit that locks in the heel.
Ankle Hammock
An inner cuff that holds the heel into the boot heel pocket, tensioned by an external BOA® dial so it can be adjusted on the mountain, in Burton's description.
Asym Life Liner
Lightweight, heat-moldable foam, cut with an asymmetric wrap cuff that closes by hook-and-loop. Its DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ lining is there, Burton says, to manage sweat and reflect body heat inward.
X Pro Flex Vibram® Outsole
A Vibram® EcoStep+ rubber outsole with 50% recycled rubber content. Burton says it balances traction and durability and removes material where it is not needed to save weight.
Features
- ·DRYRIDE Heat Cycle™ Lining
Strengths
- +Three independent BOA dials set the forefoot, ankle and cuff separately
- +The Ankle Hammock holds the heel down on its own dial
- +The heat-moldable Asym Life Liner has an asymmetric hook-and-loop wrap cuff
- +The Vibram EcoStep+ outsole uses 50% recycled rubber
- +Both Regular and Wide widths appear on this listing
Best For
Strap-binding riders who want the forefoot, ankle and cuff tightened separately, and who ride the whole mountain with some park and side hits in a mid-flex boot. Riders who rank fit and comfort ahead of maximum stiffness, and riders who need a Wide, since this page carries Regular and Wide sizes.
Limitations
- −Mid-flex in Burton's words; not a firm boot for charging
- −One review found three dials take longer than many BOA boots
- −Burton says Step On bindings take only Step On boots
- −Burton publishes no weight, last width or flex number
- −A review rated the Step On version's ankle support weak
Not For
Not for Step On riders: this is the strap-binding boot, and Burton builds the Waverange X Pro Step On separately. Not for riders who want a firm boot for charging at speed; Burton calls this one mid-flex, and PTO would start those riders on the Ion BOA, which Burton describes with a firm flex. Not for riders who want one quick dial, since three take longer to set. And not for anyone who cannot try it on first, because outside flex reads conflict and Burton gives no last width.

Common Questions
- Burton Waverange X Pro vs Waverange X: what is the difference?
- The Burton Waverange X Pro uses three independent BOA dials for the forefoot, ankle hammock and upper cuff, plus the Asym Life Liner. The strap Waverange X uses two dials, one for the shell and one for the internal ankle hammock, with an Asym Imprint 3 liner. Burton gives both boots the Happy Medium label.
- What size Burton Waverange X Pro should I get?
- Size the Burton Waverange X Pro by foot length on Burton's men's chart: US 10 is Mondo 28 and US 12 is Mondo 30. Burton builds Regular and Wide but publishes no last width, and this page carries Regular from US 6 and Wide from US 7, both up to US 15. We measure both feet in the shop before you pick a size.
- Is the Burton Waverange X Pro good for beginners?
- Burton gives the Waverange X Pro no rider level; its page rates the flex as surfy mid-flex and gives it the Happy Medium personality. PTO reads it as a fit-first boot for riders who have the basics down and ride the whole mountain. For a first season, three dials are a lot to set, so try it on in the shop before choosing.
- Does the Burton Waverange X Pro work with Step On bindings?
- No. The Burton Waverange X Pro is the strap-binding version, and Burton says Step On bindings are only compatible with Step On boots; the Waverange X Pro Step On is the Step On model. Burton lists no strap-binding compatibility chart for this boot, so a PTO technician checks it in your binding at fitting.
- Burton Waverange X Pro vs Ion BOA: which is stiffer?
- Burton describes the Ion BOA with a firm flex for full-speed-ahead charging, while it calls the Waverange X Pro a surfy mid-flex with a Happy Medium label. Burton publishes no flex number for the X Pro. In PTO's read, riders who want maximum support at speed should look at the Ion; riders who want zone-by-zone fit control fit the X Pro better.
