Description

Burton's Step On Genesis 2027 is a men's snowboard binding that combines strapless Step On entry with a Kickback Hammock hi-back and a DialFLAD lean dial. Burton rates it Happy Medium, the middle of its three Personality tiers, in words rather than a flex number, and lists its Re:Flex mounting for 4x4, 2x4 and Channel boards.

Two toe hooks and one heel clip hold the boot, and a heel-cup lever lets it go. Burton's molded hammock sits under spring tension inside the hi-back frame, aiming for more response and less vibration. Below is a single-component baseplate of 30% short-glass/nylon composite, with Re:Flex FullBED cushioning underfoot. Burton publishes no weight.

Choose it if you ride men's Step On boots, or plan to, and want the hammock hi-back in the middle tier. Per Burton, Step On bindings take Step On boots alone, men's boots in men's bindings. Strap-boot riders get the same hammock and tier from the two-strap Genesis. For Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier, look at the Step On X; to skip the hammock and the dial, the Step On Re:Flex. On a Channel board, the Step On Genesis EST runs the same hammock on EST mounting. One independent review of the 2023-2026 version scored stance and binding adjustment Poor, said hi-back rotation is quite limited and found it harder to step into on steeper snow, so it is a weak fit for riders who tinker with stance width or boot centering.

What changed from 25/26: Burton replaces the 2026 model's screwdriver Step On FLAD with DialFLAD, which turns a dial to set forward lean, and adds new colors. Mounting, baseplate, hammock, cushioning, tier and size chart carry over.

Size it from your boot, not your weight: S fits US men's 6-8, M 8.5-10.5, L 11-13 and XL 14-15, and this listing carries Black in S, L and XL. We match the binding to your Step On boot when you buy. Burton's documents disagree on which disc comes in the box, so a technician verifies it on your board first. Older 3D-pattern Burton boards need the separate 3D Hinge Disc.

Flex

Happy Medium

This is the brand’s own wording, not a number, and it does not compare across brands.

Pick the Burton Step On Genesis 2027 when you want Burton's Kickback Hammock hi-back without straps. Burton keeps it at Happy Medium on its Personality scale, and the hammock and the dial are what separate it from the Step On Re:Flex, which uses the same 30% short-glass/nylon baseplate and tier but has no hammock and still sets lean with a #2 screwdriver.

What changed from 25/26 on the Step On Genesis is one adjustment and the colors. Burton trades the screwdriver Step On FLAD of 2026 for DialFLAD, a dial on the hi-back, and lists White / Dried Moss, Black and Purple Voltage. Mounting, baseplate, hammock, FullBED cushioning, tier and size chart are listed the same for both years.

On snow, one independent review covering the 2023 to 2026 Step On Genesis found it mellower than other Step On bindings but still responsive, with a soft hi-back and good shock absorption at slower speeds. The same tester rated stance and binding adjustability Poor, called hi-back rotation quite limited, found it harder to click in on steeper snow and called stepping out awkward. That review predates the dial, but the rest of the binding it describes is unchanged on Burton's spec sheet. PTO's read: if you fine-tune stance width and boot centering, weigh those scores first.

Around the Step On Genesis, the 26/27 Step On X moves to Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier with a carbon filled nylon baseplate and Heel Grabber. The Step On Genesis EST keeps this hammock, dial and tier on EST mounting for Channel boards alone. The two-strap Genesis brings the hammock and tier to standard strap boots.

Boot pairing decides whether the Step On Genesis works for you at all. Burton says Step On bindings work only with Step On boots, and men's and women's Step On products must not be mixed. Size follows the boot: S fits US men's 6 to 8, M 8.5 to 10.5, L 11 to 13 and XL 14 to 15.

On the board side, Burton lists Re:Flex for 4x4, 2x4 and The Channel, and Burton boards with the older 3D pattern need the separately sold 3D Hinge Disc. Burton's page does not say which disc ships in the box, so our technician confirms the fit on your board before mounting.

Technology

Kickback Hammock

Burton's suspended hi-back: internal spring tension between a molded hammock and the hi-back frame, which Burton says adds response and reduces vibration.

DialFLAD with Living Hinge

A rotating dial that sets the hi-back's forward lean. Burton says more lean gives an active, quicker response. It replaces the screwdriver Step On FLAD of the 2026 version.

Step On connection

Burton's three-point connection: two toe hooks, one heel clip and a self-resetting release lever on the heel cup. Per Burton's manual, Step On bindings are not designed to release or to prevent injury.

Re:Flex mounting

Burton's hinged disc system, which Burton says improves board flex and feel while reducing weight. Boards with Burton's old 3D pattern need the 3D Hinge Disc, which is not included.

Single-Component Baseplate

One material throughout, a 30% short-glass/nylon composite, which Burton says gives consistent response and feel.

Gas Pedal

An adjustable toe ramp with settings marked in US boot sizes. Burton's manual says to set it to your boot size before mounting, to cut toe drag and help the toe connection engage.

Two-position heel clip

Burton's manual describes a first heel-clip position that locks even with snow under the boot and a final riding position reached with extra heel pressure. Burton says both hold fully; position one can allow more boot movement.

Best For

Riders in, or buying, men's Step On boots who want strap-free entry, Burton's Kickback Hammock hi-back and dial lean adjustment in the Happy Medium tier, on a 4x4, 2x4 or Channel board.

Limitations

  • −Only men's Step On boots work in this binding, per Burton.
  • −One independent review rated stance adjustability Poor.
  • −The same review found click-in harder on steeper snow.
  • −Burton publishes no weight or numeric flex for this binding.

Not For

Anyone without men's Step On boots: Burton says no other boot works in a Step On binding, and it bars mixing men's and women's Step On gear. Riders who want Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier, which the Step On X carries. Riders who fine-tune stance width and boot centering, since one independent review rated stance adjustability Poor. Riders in standard strap boots, who get the same hammock from the two-strap Genesis. And riders who can do without the hammock and the dial, who can compare the Step On Re:Flex.

Common Questions

Burton Step On Genesis 2027 vs 2026: what changed?
The Burton Step On Genesis 2027 sets forward lean with DialFLAD, a rotating dial, where the 2026 version used a screwdriver Step On FLAD. It comes in White / Dried Moss, Black and Purple Voltage. Burton lists the same Re:Flex mounting, 30% short-glass/nylon baseplate, Kickback Hammock, FullBED cushioning, Happy Medium tier and size chart for both years.
Burton Step On Genesis vs Step On Re:Flex: what is the difference?
The Burton Step On Genesis adds the Kickback Hammock hi-back, which Burton says brings more response and less vibration, and sets lean with a DialFLAD dial. The 26/27 Step On Re:Flex shares the 30% short-glass/nylon baseplate and Happy Medium tier but has no hammock and uses screwdriver Step On FLAD.
What size Burton Step On Genesis should I get?
Size the Burton Step On Genesis from your men's Step On boot, not your weight. Burton's chart puts S at US men's 6-8, M at 8.5-10.5, L at 11-13 and XL at 14-15, with no overlap. We pair the binding size with your boot at purchase.
Does the Burton Step On Genesis work with regular snowboard boots?
No. Burton says the Step On Genesis works only with Step On boots, and men's Step On boots go in men's Step On bindings. For standard strap boots, Burton's two-strap Genesis carries the same Kickback Hammock and Happy Medium tier.
Will the Burton Step On Genesis fit my board?
For the Step On Genesis, Burton lists Re:Flex for The Channel, 4x4 and 2x4 boards, and Burton's older 3D-pattern boards require the 3D Hinge Disc, sold separately. Burton's page does not list the disc in the box. Our technician checks the disc against your board's inserts before mounting.
Is the Burton Step On Genesis good for beginners?
The Burton Step On Genesis sits at Happy Medium, the center of Burton's three-step Personality scale, and PTO reads it as a fit for riders already linking turns across the mountain. Burton gives it no level rating. New riders still need men's Step On boots, and one independent tester found click-in harder on steeper snow on the earlier version.
