Description
The Burton Genesis EST is a men's two-strap snowboard binding for boards with Burton's Channel mounting system, built around cushioning and a suspended hi-back. It mounts with EST, which fits The Channel alone, and Burton rates it Happy Medium, the center step of its three-step Personality scale, on a 30% short-glass/nylon composite baseplate; Burton publishes no flex number.
EST drops the mounting disc. The binding bolts to The Channel through two outboard mounting points, so no mounting hardware sits under your foot, and Burton pairs that with a cushioning footbed for board feel and open stance options. B3 gel cushioning adds to it, and Burton rates the gel for comfort and dampening that hold up across temperatures and over long-term use. The Kickback Hammock hi-back uses internal spring tension between a molded hammock and its frame, and Burton credits it with suspending your heel for more response and less vibration. Per Burton, the two-material baseplate and The Hinge ease foot rolls and ollies while holding firmer edge to edge. A Hammockstrap ankle strap, a Supergrip Capstrap 2.0 toe strap, Double Take buckles and a MicroFLAD lean adjuster complete the build.
Burton pitches the Genesis as a cushioned binding made for long days where comfort matters. That fits riders on Channel boards who cover the whole mountain and put comfort ahead of maximum stiffness. It is the wrong binding for any board without The Channel: Burton says EST will not go on 2x4, 4x4 or 3D patterns, and Burton's own Channel boards from before 2010 need M5 hardware that Burton has stopped producing. Burton publishes no weight.
Size by boot, not weight: on Burton's chart M covers US men's 8 through 11 and L starts at 10, and both are offered on this listing. We help you choose between them, and a technician checks your board's Channel hardware and the fit before mounting.

Flex
Happy Medium
This is the brand’s own wording, not a number, and it does not compare across brands.
Once you know you want a comfort-first strap binding for Channel boards, the Genesis EST question narrows to which Burton sibling suits your quiver, which size your boot lands in, and what the spec sheet leaves open.
Three Burton 26/27 bindings sit closest to it. The Genesis Re:Flex carries the same Happy Medium tier, Kickback Hammock, B3 gel and straps on Re:Flex mounting, which Burton calls compatible with all board mounting options, though 3D boards need a 3D Hinge Disc, which is not included; its page lists a single-component baseplate rather than this binding's Hinge design. With an insert board anywhere in the quiver, the Re:Flex version is the safer pick; with The Channel on every board, the EST version is the one made for it. The Cartel X EST shares the EST mount and Hinge baseplate but steps up to Stiff & Aggressive, with a 45% short-glass/nylon baseplate, a Heel Hammock and a DialFLAD dial, so it is the move only if the middle tier is what you want to leave. The Step On Genesis EST keeps the hammock, tier and EST mount for Step On boots, which makes that choice a question of the boots you already own.
Stance width, angle and centering change by loosening two screws per binding, per Burton's EST guide. Forward lean is set through MicroFLAD, a lever and sliding plate, where the Cartel X EST and Step On Genesis EST use DialFLAD.
Burton rates feel with the Happy Medium label and no flex number, and calls the Genesis a little softer than its stiffest bindings without naming them. The 30% short-glass/nylon composite is the one baseplate material it names; the second material is not published, and neither is a weight or an ability level. To weigh it against another brand's binding, line up tier labels and part names; there are no numbers to set side by side.
Your own board and boots settle the rest. Per Burton, its Channel boards made before 2010 use the narrower M5 Channel, and Burton no longer makes M5 inserts, so the board's model year matters as much as the logo on it. Sizing follows the boot: the M band spans US men's 8 to 11 and the L band starts at 10, and Burton gives no rule for the 10 to 11 overlap. Bring the board and boots, and our technician checks the Channel hardware and fit before mounting.
Technology
EST
Burton's disc-free mounting: it attaches at two outboard mounting points in The Channel, so no hardware sits underfoot. Burton says EST adds a cushioning footbed for board feel and unrestricted stance options, and works only on boards with The Channel.
Kickback Hammock
Burton's suspended hi-back: a molded hammock held under internal spring tension inside the hi-back frame, which Burton says increases response and reduces vibration.
B3 gel cushioning
Gel cushioning that Burton says maintains comfort and dampening through a wide range of temperatures and long-term use.
Dual-Component Baseplate with The Hinge
Burton: two materials, one underfoot and a separate one on the lateral and medial sides, for a softer, more balanced ride that is stiffer edge to edge, with The Hinge adding dynamic flex for foot rolls, easier ollies and less fatigue. The spec table names one material: short-glass/nylon composite at 30%.
MicroFLAD
A lever and sliding plate on the hi-back that set forward lean. Burton: more lean gives an active, quicker response; less gives a more relaxed one.
Double Take Buckles
Buckles with dual-sided tongue teeth that Burton says engage quicker and take up the strap faster, so it takes fewer cranks to tighten.
Supergrip Capstrap 2.0
A toe strap that wraps across the whole toe of the boot and, Burton says, pulls it down and back into the heel cup, with dual-texture over-molding for grip.
Features
- ·Hammockstrap ankle strap
- ·Includes reground materials
Strengths
- +Two outboard EST mounting points leave no hardware underfoot.
- +Kickback Hammock hi-back uses spring tension to cut vibration, per Burton.
- +B3 gel cushioning holds its damping across temperatures, per Burton.
- +Stance adjusts by loosening two screws per binding.
Best For
Strap-boot riders on Channel boards who want Burton's Happy Medium tier with a Kickback Hammock hi-back and B3 gel cushioning for long days, in a boot inside Burton's M (US men's 8-11) or L (US men's 10+) range.
Limitations
- −EST fits only Channel boards, not 2x4, 4x4 or 3D.
- −Burton no longer makes M5 inserts for its pre-2010 Channel boards.
- −Burton publishes no weight or numeric flex for the Genesis EST.
- −MicroFLAD sets lean by lever, where the Cartel X EST gets DialFLAD.
Not For
Anyone whose board lacks The Channel: Burton says EST cannot use 2x4, 4x4 or 3D inserts, and Burton's own Channel boards made before 2010 need M5 inserts Burton has stopped making. Riders who switch between Channel and insert boards; the Genesis Re:Flex puts the same hi-back and cushioning on Re:Flex mounting. Riders who want Burton's Stiff & Aggressive tier, which the Cartel X EST covers on EST. Riders in Step On boots, who want the Step On Genesis EST. And anyone needing size S, since M and L are the two sizes here.

Common Questions
- Burton Genesis EST vs Genesis Re:Flex: what is the difference?
- The Burton Genesis EST and Genesis Re:Flex share the Happy Medium tier, Kickback Hammock hi-back, B3 gel cushioning and straps; they differ in mount and baseplate. The EST mounts straight into The Channel without a disc and fits Channel boards alone, on a dual-component baseplate with The Hinge. The Re:Flex uses Re:Flex mounting, which Burton describes as fitting all board mounting options, with a 3D Hinge Disc, not included, for 3D boards, and its page lists a single-component baseplate.
- Burton Genesis EST vs Cartel X EST: which is stiffer?
- The Burton Genesis EST is the softer of the two: Burton puts it in the middle Happy Medium tier and rates the Cartel X EST Stiff & Aggressive. Both use EST and a dual-component baseplate with The Hinge. The Cartel X EST adds a 45% short-glass/nylon baseplate, Heel Hammock and DialFLAD, while the Genesis EST runs 30% and a Kickback Hammock.
- Will the Burton Genesis EST fit my snowboard?
- The Burton Genesis EST fits boards with The Channel; Burton says EST is not compatible with 4x2, 4x4 or 3D hole patterns. Burton says its own Channel boards made before 2010 use the narrower M5 Channel and need M5 inserts, which Burton no longer makes. Tell us your board model and our technician confirms the hardware before mounting.
- What size Burton Genesis EST should I get?
- Size the Burton Genesis EST from your boot. Burton's chart puts M at US men's 8-11 (EU 41-44) and L at US men's 10 and up (EU 43+), with no published rule for the 10-11 overlap. This listing carries M and L, and we help you pick between them from your boot.
- Is the Burton Genesis EST good for beginners?
- The Burton Genesis EST sits in Burton's middle Happy Medium tier, and Burton aims it at riders who push their gear and their riding, with no level rating. PTO reads it as a fit for riders already riding the whole mountain who want comfort on long days. Burton's own tier text ties learning the basics to its softer Soft & Playful tier.
