PTO Verdict

“Burton lists no bevel like the Grom's and no camber like the Custom Smalls'.”

Best for: A kid inside Burton's 70 to 150 lb chart who already stops and links turns, and wants to ride more of the mountain and small park features such as boxes and low rails. Also a growing rider, since The Channel lets the stance be reset each season.

Not for: A child up to 100 lb still learning to stop, who belongs on the Grom Flat Top: it adds Easy Bevel and covers 40 to 100 lb. A heavier first-timer is past the Grom's chart, so ask us at fitting. A strong kid who carves and jumps a lot, who is better matched to the cambered Custom Smalls, rated Intermediate and Expert. A rider under 70 lb or past 150 lb, outside Burton's chart.

Description

The Burton Smalls 2027 is a kids' twin snowboard for riders past the learning stage who stop with control, link turns and want more of the mountain. It pairs a Flat Top profile with a twin flex, comes in 125, 130, 134, 138 and 142 cm with waists from 230 to 243 mm, and Burton sizes it for riders from 70 to 150 lb.

Flat Top keeps the base flat between the bindings for a stable platform, while the tip and tail kick up, which Burton says keeps the ride loose and catch-free. Scoop turns up the edges at the tip and tail, and Pro-Tip thins them to cut swing weight. Inside is Burton's Super Fly 800G wood core with Dualzone EGD, grain run along the toe and heel edges that Burton credits with edge hold and strength. Biax fiberglass keeps it torsionally soft, and the extruded base asks for little upkeep.

Burton lists no bevel for the Smalls, so a first-day child up to 100 lb starts on the Grom Flat Top, which has Easy Bevel. For a first-timer over 100 lb, which the Grom does not size for, ask us at fitting.

For 2027 the Smalls keeps the 2026 construction and size-chart numbers, in a Brown / Blue colorway, and its spec table drops the Riding Level row.

Choose the length by weight, then look at stance. The 125 and 130 both list 70 to 100 lb and differ in reference stance, 430 against 455 mm. The 134 covers 80 to 110 lb, the 138 covers 90 to 120 lb, and the 142 jumps to 100 to 150 lb with a 480 mm stance. The Smalls is sold as a board only. Bring your child in with their boots: we help choose length and bindings, and our technician sets the stance.

The take

“Burton lists no bevel like the Grom's and no camber like the Custom Smalls'.”

The Burton Smalls sits between two clearer choices in Burton's kids' snowboard line, and the buying decision is where your child falls between them. The Grom Flat Top sits below. The Custom Smalls Camber above uses PurePop Camber for kids Burton rates Intermediate and Expert. The Smalls shares the Custom Smalls' 70 to 150 lb chart but keeps a Flat Top profile, flat between the feet, which makes it the board for a kid who is not yet asking for camber.

Burton's own words for the Smalls point at a rider with some skills. Its features call it tuned for light riders with the skills to push their riding, and its description aims it at the park and natural features. Burton's other signals point lower: its 2026 page labelled this same build Beginner, and its Biax text calls the fiberglass great for beginning riders. Our read: the Burton Smalls fits a kid who already stops on both edges and links turns on greens and easy blues.

On-snow reports for the Burton Smalls come from earlier seasons of this same Flat Top build. A snowboard magazine test with two kids, aged 9 and 13, called it a good all-around cruiser once turns are connected and found it easy to press on boxes and rails. The 13-year-old said it locks in on rails, while the 9-year-old found it a bit stiffer and liked it most at speed. Eight owner reviews on Burton's site, all five stars, add that an 11-year-old rode much better on it, and that another kid found it fast on new wax, then rode confidently after two days.

Sizing the Burton Smalls is a weight call with one outlier. The 125 and 130 share a 70 to 100 lb range, so the difference is mainly length and reference stance: 430 mm on the 125, 455 mm on the 130. The 134 runs 80 to 110 lb and the 138 runs 90 to 120 lb, both at 455 mm. The 142 changes character on paper: 100 to 150 lb, a 243 mm waist that is 8 mm wider than the 138's, and a 480 mm stance. If a light, tall kid wants the 142 for its length, check that wider stance at fitting.

Burton's 2027 page keeps the 2026 construction and every size-chart number, with a Brown / Blue colorway and reworded binding sizes. The Burton Smalls ships as a board only. The Channel mount sets stance width and angles along a slot rather than fixed holes, handy for a child who grows every season, and Burton backs the board with a three-year warranty. Burton's chart sizes its Re:Flex bindings Kids/Small through the 138 and Small on the 142 but gives no boot range, so bring your child's boots and we match the bindings to them.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Centered - stance location 0 on every size, on The Channel. Our pick: Burton Re:Flex bindings in the size Burton's chart lists: Kids/Small on 125 to 138, Small on 142.

Sold as a board only. Burton gives no boot range for the Smalls, so bring your child's boots: we choose bindings that fit them, and our technician sets the stance and confirms the setup on the board.

    Common Questions

Burton Smalls vs Custom Smalls: what is the difference?
The Burton Smalls is a Flat Top board, flat between the feet, while the Custom Smalls Camber uses PurePop Camber and is rated Intermediate and Expert by Burton. Both cover 70 to 150 lb, so the choice is the rider: a kid linking turns and exploring suits the Smalls, a kid carving hard and jumping suits the Custom Smalls.
What size Burton Smalls should I get?
Size the Burton Smalls by weight first: 70 to 100 lb on the 125 and 130, 80 to 110 lb on the 134, 90 to 120 lb on the 138, and 100 to 150 lb on the 142. The 125 and 130 differ in length and reference stance, 430 mm against 455 mm. Bring your child's weight and boots, and we help pick the length.
Is the Burton Smalls good for beginners?
The Burton Smalls suits a kid who can already stop and link turns; Burton tunes it for light riders ready to push their riding. Burton's 2026 page labelled the same build Beginner. A child on their first days who weighs up to 100 lb is better matched to the Grom Flat Top, whose sizes cover 40 to 100 lb. A heavier first-timer is past the Grom's chart, so ask us at fitting.
Burton Grom vs Smalls: when should my child move up?
Move from the Burton Grom Flat Top to the Smalls once your child can stop on the heel and toe edges and link turns on easy runs. Up to 100 lb the move is about skill: the Smalls 125 and 130 start at 70 lb, inside the Grom 130's range that tops out at 100 lb. Past 100 lb the Grom's chart ends, so a heavier child who is still learning to stop should ask us at fitting.
Burton Smalls 2027 vs 2026: what changed?
The Burton Smalls 2027 keeps the 2026 board's Flat Top profile, Super Fly 800G core, Biax fiberglass and every size-chart number from 125 to 142 cm. The visible changes are the Brown / Blue colorway and binding sizes now written as Kids/Small on the 125 to 138. The 2027 spec table also drops the 2026 page's Riding Level row, which read Beginner, and its Sustainability row.
What bindings fit the Burton Smalls?
The Burton Smalls uses The Channel mount, which Burton says is compatible with all major bindings, and its chart lists Burton Re:Flex bindings in Kids/Small for the 125 to 138 and Small for the 142. Burton gives no boot range for the board. Our technician confirms the binding and boot fit at setup.
