Description
The Burton Kids' Mini Grom (2027) is the smallest snowboard boot Burton makes: a soft, linerless strap-binding boot for toddlers and small kids that uses oversized hook-and-loop straps instead of laces or a dial. It comes in Regular width only, in kids' US sizes 7C to 13C (Mondo 13.5 to 19.5 on Burton's chart), and Burton describes the flex as super-soft and flexible without printing a number; this listing is the White colorway.
Burton calls the closure Dual Zone Shred Ready Velcro® straps and describes them as mitt-friendly; the aim is a child who puts the boots on, takes them off and adjusts them without help from a parent or the instructor. There is no separate inner boot (Burton's Tech Specs read Linerless for both liner and inner cuff), and sealed lowers plus 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation keep small feet warm. The DynoLite outsole is Burton's cushioned sole compound, credited with balance, traction and board feel in a 20% lighter construction, though Burton never says lighter than what.
The Room-To-Grow footbed handles growth spurts. A removable footbed sits on a second, built-in one; take the top layer out once the boot turns snug and, by Burton's account, the boot gains a full size.
Burton's line for it is "Get your mini shredder started on the right foot," and it lists the Mini Grom Flat Top snowboard and Mini Grom Disc binding as the boot's partners. Skip it for a child on Step On bindings: from 11C, Burton's Step On boot for kids is the Grom Step On. Skip it too for a foot past 13C, where the Grom BOA carries on with one BOA dial up to 3K.
Burton's kids' binding chart puts every Mini Grom size, 7C through 13C, on an S binding, the Mini Grom Disc. Bring the socks your child rides in. We measure feet, match the binding size, and a technician looks at how the boot sits in the binding.

Burton Kids' Mini Grom

Flex
Super-soft in Burton's words. Burton shows its Personality scale (Soft & Playful, Happy Medium, Stiff & Aggressive) with no position marked for the Mini Grom and prints no flex number; step 1 of 3 is PTO's placement.
Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.
The Burton Mini Grom is where Burton's kids' boots start: kids' US 7C to 13C, Regular width, straps instead of a dial. Of the four Burton kids' boot pages we checked (Mini Grom, Grom BOA, Grom Step On, Smalls BOA), the Mini Grom is the one that closes with hook-and-loop; the other three use a Single Zone BOA dial. Burton calls it super-soft and flexible and pairs it with the Mini Grom Flat Top board for the youngest riders. PTO's read: a boot for first days, not for a child who already wants support.
The straps decide this boot. What they give up is fine tension, because a strap holds wherever it lands. On a super-soft boot at 7C to 13C, PTO takes that trade.
Burton lists the Mini Grom's liner and inner cuff as linerless, with sealed lowers and 3M Thinsulate for warmth, and describes the build no further. In practice that means one boot instead of a shell plus an inner boot: nothing to pull out and nothing to line back up on a cold lodge bench.
Fit the boot to today's foot with the removable footbed in and let the Room-To-Grow footbed cover the next growth spurt. Buying big on top of that stacks two size jumps, which PTO advises against. Burton prints no width figure, so a wide or high-volume foot should be tried on in the shop.
From 11C to 13C the Mini Grom shares sizes with Burton's Grom BOA, which runs on to 3K with one BOA dial, a linerless build and its own Room-to-Grow footbed. A child in that band whose foot will pass 13C soon gets more runway from the Grom BOA; the Mini Grom stays the pick when a closure the child works in mittens matters more. Neither is a Step On boot. Burton says Step On boots work only with Step On bindings, and from 11C its kids' Step On boot is the Grom Step On, made in 11C to 2K.
Fit
Kids' US sizing, Regular width
Burton publishes no last name, last width or volume figure for the Mini Grom and makes it in Regular width only. Fit a new pair with the Room-To-Grow top footbed in place.
Snowboard boots are sized by foot length, not a shell-width figure.
Closure
Dual Zone Shred Ready Velcro® Straps
Liner
Linerless, per Burton's Tech Specs
Outsole
DynoLite outsole
Technology
Dual Zone Shred Ready Velcro® Straps
Oversized hook-and-loop straps Burton calls mitt-friendly, so kids can put on, take off and adjust their own boots.
Room-To-Grow footbed
A removable footbed over a secondary, integrated footbed. Burton says pulling the top layer lets the boot gain one full size.
DynoLite outsole
Burton's outsole compound, credited with cushioning, board feel and consistent support in a 20% lighter construction, plus balance and traction. Burton gives no baseline for the 20%.
Features
- ·Linerless construction
- ·Sealed lowers
- ·3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation
Strengths
- +Oversized Velcro straps a mittened child can close alone
- +Room-To-Grow footbed adds one full size as feet grow
- +Burton describes the Mini Grom as super-soft and flexible
- +Linerless build means no inner boot to line up
- +Sealed lowers plus 3M Thinsulate insulation for warmth
Best For
Toddlers and small kids in kids' US 7C to 13C on their first days on strap bindings. It fits a parent who wants a closure the child can work in mittens, and a family counting on the Room-To-Grow footbed for an extra size of use.
Limitations
- −Straps hold where they land, with no dial for fine tension
- −Burton lists no heat-moldable liner for the Mini Grom
- −Regular width only, and Burton publishes no width figure
- −Not a Step On boot; Grom Step On covers Step On from 11C
- −Mini Grom sizes stop at 13C; the Grom BOA reaches 3K
Not For
Not for a kid on Step On bindings: the Mini Grom is a strap-binding boot, and for Step On from 11C Burton makes the Grom Step On. Not for a foot past 13C, or a child at 11C to 13C about to outgrow 13C, since the Grom BOA runs on to 3K. Not for a parent of a child at 11C to 13C who wants dial tension over straps; that is the Grom BOA as well. And not for a rider who needs a heat-moldable liner or a Wide, because Burton lists the Mini Grom as linerless and Regular only.

Common Questions
- Burton Mini Grom vs Grom BOA: which one?
- The Burton Mini Grom closes with oversized hook-and-loop straps in kids' US 7C to 13C; the Grom BOA uses one Single Zone BOA dial and runs 11C to 3K. Both are linerless strap-binding boots with DynoLite, Thinsulate and a footbed that adds a size. Between 11C and 13C, pick by closure and by how soon the foot passes 13C.
- What size Burton Mini Grom should I get?
- Size the Burton Mini Grom to your child's foot today, with the removable Room-To-Grow footbed in. Burton's run is 7C to 13C, Regular width, which its chart lists as Mondo 13.5 to 19.5 (the chart has no 12C entry). Pulling that footbed later gains one full size, so skip buying big; we measure feet in the shop.
- Is the Burton Mini Grom good for beginners?
- Yes. PTO reads the Burton Mini Grom as a first boot for the smallest riders. Burton calls it super-soft and flexible, says kids can get the boots on and adjusted without help, and matches it to the Mini Grom Flat Top, which Burton calls its most beginner friendly board for the youngest riders. Burton names no age or rider level.
- What bindings fit the Burton Mini Grom?
- The Burton Mini Grom is a strap-binding boot, not Step On, and Burton pairs it with its Kids' Mini Grom Disc binding. Burton's kids' binding chart puts boots from 7C to 13C on a size S, which is the Mini Grom Disc. A PTO technician checks the boot in the binding at fitting.
- Does the Burton Mini Grom have a liner?
- The Burton Mini Grom has no separate liner: Burton lists its liner and inner cuff as linerless and names no heat-moldable liner. Warmth comes from sealed lowers and 3M Thinsulate insulation, per Burton, and a small child has no inner boot to pull out or line back up when getting dressed.
