The take

Phenomenal ice grip — locks into hardpack with surgical accuracy and explosive rebound turn-to-turn.

The Laser SL FIS is Stöckli's full-spec slalom race ski — FIS-legal radius, phenol sidewalls, and a significantly stiffer core profile than the standard Laser SL. This is a competition tool built to the same standards as what runs gates on the World Cup circuit.

The phenol sidewalls with carbon black deliver harder, more direct power transfer than standard ABS sidewalls. The thicker core underfoot creates a stiffer flex pattern that rewards explosive, cross-under slalom technique with vice-like grip and instant rebound. Edge-to-edge transitions happen in a split second.

What keeps it from being punishing is the Stöckli refinement. Even as a FIS ski, it has that signature smoothness and damping. It's stiffer than the standard SL but not harsh — it absorbs vibration and delivers feedback cleanly instead of rattling your teeth. That said, it demands serious technique and fitness. Passive or backseat skiing is immediately punished.

Compared to the standard SL: FIS-homologated geometry with minimum radius ≥13m. The FIS is heavier (~3.5kg vs ~3.2kg per pair), stiffer, has phenol sidewalls, and only comes in 3 lengths. The standard SL is the better choice for 90% of skiers. The FIS is for racers who need FIS compliance and maximum edge grip.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Stöckli WRT plate system (pre-mounted). Our pick: Stöckli WRT 12.

  • Stöckli WRT 12Standard race

WRT-D20 plate with WRT 12 binding. DIN 4-12. Standard for club and masters racers.

  • Stöckli WRT 16Higher DIN

WRT-D20 plate with WRT 16 binding. DIN 6-16. For stronger, more aggressive racers.

  • Stöckli WRT 24Competition

WRT-D20 plate with WRT 24 binding. DIN 7-24. Full race DIN for competitive athletes.

The SL FIS uses the WRT-D20 race platform exclusively. SRT-Speed-D20 plate is not available for this model.
