Technology

ChromaPop Lens

A contrast tint that filters two wavelengths of light known to cause color confusion, so terrain, texture, and edges read more clearly. It is a contrast tint, not a medical or corrective lens.

Cylindrical Carbonic-x Lens

A lens that curves horizontally but stays flat top-to-bottom, molded in impact- and scratch-resistant Carbonic-x. It trades a little of a spherical lens’s wraparound for a lower price and a tidier profile on many faces.

SMITH MAG Lens Change

Six magnetic contact points pull the lens into alignment and a locking lever holds it, with a push lever to release. Swapping tints for changing light takes seconds without prying at the frame.

5X Anti-Fog & AirEvac

Smith’s highest-level anti-fog inner coating paired with AirEvac ventilation that works with the airflow of Smith helmets to keep the view clear as conditions change.

Features

  • ·Cylindrical ChromaPop lens for contrast in flat, variable light
  • ·MAG magnetic mount with a locking lever swaps lenses in seconds
  • ·Ships with two lenses — bright-light and low-light ChromaPop tints
  • ·5X anti-fog inner lens, the highest level Smith offers
  • ·AirEvac ventilation integrates with Smith helmets for airflow
  • ·Responsive Fit frame with three-layer DriWix face foam
  • ·QuickFit strap with clip buckle; Medium/Large plus a Low Bridge Fit option

The Smith Squad MAG is the value entry to Smith’s MAG goggle system: a cylindrical goggle that brings the fast MAG lens-change system down to a friendlier price. The oversize Carbonic-x lens curves horizontally for a wide view and stays flat top-to-bottom, and ChromaPop filters specific wavelengths of light to lift contrast and separate detail in the flat, variable light the Pacific Northwest serves up.

The MAG system is what sets this tier apart from the standard Squad: six magnetic contact points pull the lens into place and a locking lever holds it, so changing tints as the light shifts takes seconds. The Squad MAG ships with two ChromaPop lenses — one bright-light tint and one low-light tint — so a single purchase covers most conditions. A 5X anti-fog inner lens (the highest Smith offers), AirEvac ventilation, a Responsive Fit frame, a QuickFit strap with a clip buckle, and three-layer DriWix face foam round out the build, and it integrates with Smith helmets for airflow.

Where the Squad MAG sits in the line is clear. Its cylindrical lens trades some of the panoramic wraparound of the spherical I/O MAG and 4D MAG for a lower price and a tidier profile. Against the standard Squad — which also ships with a spare low-light lens — the step up is about the swap and the venting: the MAG magnetic mount changes tints tool-free where the base model swaps by hand, the 5X anti-fog inner lens outranks the Squad’s Fog-X, and AirEvac adds ventilation. It comes in a Medium/Large fit, with a separate Low Bridge Fit for lower nose bridges or higher cheekbones. Reach for the Squad MAG if you want tool-free MAG lens swaps and Smith’s highest anti-fog without paying spherical-flagship money. Skip it if you want the widest spherical field of view, or if you never plan to change tints and would rather spend less on the standard Squad.

Safety — read this

ChromaPop is a contrast tint that helps you read terrain in flat light — it does not prevent injury or replace careful skiing. The cylindrical lens is impact- and scratch-resistant Carbonic-x, not a guarantee against eye injury. Smith does not publish a specific VLT or UV number for this listing, so we do not claim one.

Strengths

  • +Cylindrical ChromaPop lens lifts contrast in flat light
  • +MAG magnets and a locking lever swap lenses in seconds
  • +Ships with two lenses — bright and low light
  • +5X anti-fog inner lens, the highest level Smith offers

Best For

All-mountain and resort skiers who want MAG lens swaps and two ChromaPop lenses without paying spherical-flagship money.

Limitations

  • Cylindrical lens gives a narrower view than a spherical goggle
  • Value depends on actually swapping the lenses
  • The standard Squad costs less without the MAG system

Not For

Skiers who want the widest spherical field of view of the I/O MAG or 4D MAG, or who never swap tints and would rather spend less on the standard Squad.

Common Questions

How many lenses come with the Smith Squad MAG?
Two. The Squad MAG ships with a bright-light and a low-light ChromaPop lens, so a single purchase covers most conditions.
How does the MAG lens change system work?
Magnetic contact points pull the lens into alignment and a locking lever secures it. Release the lever to swap tints in seconds without prying at the frame.
Is the Squad MAG lens cylindrical or spherical?
Cylindrical. It curves horizontally for a wide view but stays flat top-to-bottom, which keeps the price and profile lower than a spherical goggle.
What is the difference between the Squad MAG and the standard Squad?
The Squad MAG adds the MAG magnetic tool-free lens swap, a higher 5X anti-fog inner lens, and AirEvac venting. The standard Squad changes lenses by hand and uses Fog-X anti-fog with a dual-slide strap. Both goggles ship with a bright and a low-light ChromaPop lens.
