Technology
ChromaPop Lens
A lens tint that filters specific wavelengths to lift contrast and natural color, so terrain detail reads more clearly in flat and variable light.
Compound Lens Shape
Smith’s semi-toric shape that blends the low profile and wide view of a cylindrical lens with the optical clarity of a curved toric lens.
QuickFit Strap
A fast strap-length adjustment with an ultra-wide, 51mm silicone-backed band that stays put and wears over or under a helmet.
Responsive Fit + DriWix Foam
A frame that flexes to the shape of your face, backed by three-layer DriWix face foam that wicks moisture to hold off fogging.
Features
- ·ChromaPop lens lifts contrast in flat, variable light
- ·Compound semi-toric shape: wide view in a low-profile frame
- ·Bonus low-light lens in the box for storm and dusk laps
- ·QuickFit strap adjusts fast, wears over or under a helmet

- ·Low Bridge Fit version for lower nose bridges (model M00458)
Smith redesigned the Shakedown for 26/27 around its new Compound lens, turning a value goggle into something with a more grown-up view. Compound is a semi-toric shape: it keeps the low profile and wide peripheral view of a cylindrical lens but borrows the optical clarity of a curved toric lens. On top sits ChromaPop, Smith’s contrast tint that separates the whites and greys of flat light so ice, bumps, and rollers read earlier. The ChromaPop Everyday configurations ship with a bonus low-light lens for storm days, plus a microfiber bag.
Fit leans freestyle and helmet-friendly. The QuickFit strap adjusts quickly and its ultra-wide silicone-backed band holds through spins and landings, over or under a helmet. Three-layer DriWix face foam wicks sweat to keep the seal from fogging, and the Responsive Fit frame flexes to your face. A Low Bridge Fit version (M00458) is shaped for lower nose bridges and wider or higher cheekbones, which is the difference between a good day and a pinched, leaky one for those faces.
The honest limit is the lens system. This is not a MAG goggle, so there is no tool-free magnetic swap — changing to the bonus lens means flexing it in and out of the frame, and the semi-toric shape gives a slightly narrower view than a full spherical lens. Reach for the Shakedown if you want ChromaPop contrast and a low-profile freestyle fit at a mid-range price. If you want tool-free magnetic lens changes or the widest spherical view, step up to a Smith MAG goggle such as the I/O MAG or Squad MAG.
Safety — read this
A goggle protects your eyes, not your head, so wear a helmet with it. The ChromaPop lens blocks UV and cuts glare and wind, but that is eye protection only. Clear a fogged or scratched lens before you drop in, since a blurred view is its own hazard on the hill.
Strengths
- +ChromaPop lifts contrast in flat, low-visibility light
- +Compound semi-toric lens: wide view, low-profile frame
- +Bonus low-light lens included for storm days
- +QuickFit strap and DriWix foam wear well under a helmet
Best For
Skiers and riders who want ChromaPop contrast and a low-profile freestyle fit at a mid-range price.
Limitations
- −No tool-free magnetic lens swap like Smith’s MAG goggles
- −Swapping the spare means flexing it in and out of the frame
- −Narrower view than a full spherical lens
- −Lens changes are manual — no tool-free magnetic MAG swap
Not For
Anyone who wants tool-free magnetic lens changes or the widest spherical field of view — a Smith MAG goggle suits that better.

Common Questions
- Does the Smith Shakedown come with a spare lens?
- Yes. The ChromaPop Everyday versions pair a mirror lens with a bonus low-light lens for storm and flat-light days. The higher Pro Photochromic version instead uses one self-adjusting lens. All versions include a microfiber bag.
- What is the Compound lens on the Shakedown?
- Compound is Smith’s semi-toric lens shape. It blends the low profile and wide view of a cylindrical lens with the optical clarity of a curved toric lens, and carries ChromaPop tinting for contrast in variable light.
- Is there a Low Bridge Fit version of the Shakedown?
- Yes. Smith offers a Low Bridge Fit Shakedown, model M00458, shaped for lower nose bridges and wider or higher cheekbones. It uses the same Compound ChromaPop lens as the standard fit.
