Technology

Breakaway System

A chin bar designed to release under load. You can set the force at which it breaks away — a bar that gives way under the right load can be safer in a hard gate strike than a rigid one.

Adjustable / Lockable Positioning

The chin bar can be locked solid or left free-moving, so you tune it to your discipline and preference.

Features

  • ·Detachable chin bar for POC race helmets
  • ·Set the breakaway release force to your preference
  • ·Lock it solid or leave it free-moving
  • ·Fits Skull Dura (including junior), Skull Orbic Spin, Super Skull, and Artic SL
  • ·Two colorways — Hydrogen White and Uranium Black

The Maxilla Breakaway System is the detachable chin bar for POC’s race helmets — the piece that turns a slalom lid into a full chin-guard setup for banging gates. It clicks onto the helmet and, true to the name, it’s a breakaway design: you can set the force at which it releases, lock it solid, or leave it free-moving. That tunability is the point — a chin bar that gives way under the right load can be safer in a hard gate strike than one that stays rigid no matter what.

Fitment is specific, so check your helmet before you buy. The Maxilla is made for the POC Skull Dura line — including the junior Skull Dura — as well as the Skull Orbic Spin, Super Skull, and Artic SL, and it comes in Hydrogen White and Uranium Black to match. If your lid isn’t on that list, this isn’t the chin bar for it. Worth noting: on the Artic SL the chin guard is already included in the box, whereas on the Skull Dura and Dura Jr it is not — which is exactly where this accessory comes in.

Buy it if you run slalom on a compatible POC race helmet and need a chin bar. Skip it if your helmet isn’t on the compatibility list, or if you already have the guard bundled with an Artic SL.

Strengths

  • +Settable breakaway force — tune the release to your preference
  • +Locks solid or runs free-moving
  • +Fits the full POC race-helmet range, including the junior Skull Dura
  • +Two colorways to match your helmet

Best For

Slalom racers who own a compatible POC race helmet and need a chin bar to run gates.

Limitations

  • Only fits the listed POC race helmets — not a universal chin bar
  • Redundant if you already own an Artic SL, which includes the guard
  • An add-on cost on top of the helmet for Skull Dura and Dura Jr owners

Not For

Anyone whose helmet isn’t on the compatibility list, and Artic SL owners who already have the guard.

Common Questions

Which helmets does the POC Maxilla Breakaway System fit?
It fits the POC Skull Dura (including the junior Skull Dura), Skull Orbic Spin, Super Skull, and Artic SL.
Do I need the Maxilla if I have an Artic SL?
No. The Artic SL already includes the chin guard in the box. The Maxilla is the add-on for helmets like the Skull Dura and Dura Jr that do not include one.
Can the chin bar be locked in place?
Yes. You can lock it solid, leave it free-moving, or set the force at which it breaks away.
