X-Wax is One Ball's race wax line — built for performance, not just maintenance. The Cool version covers groomed hardpack in the 21–28°F (-6 to -2°C) range and comes as a two-bar system: a temperature-specific colored wax bar and a concentrated Mineral Speed Additive bar. These mineral additives are a proprietary blend designed to cut dry and wet friction, reduce surface tension, and build water repellency where fluoro once did the work. Completely fluoro-free — no fluorinated chemicals of any kind, no PFAS — so it works under any competition rule set and at any resort that has moved to fluoro-free requirements. Made in the USA.
Application matters here. One Ball's instruction: melt the additive bar onto the base first, then follow with the colored wax bar, targeting a roughly 50/50 ratio. Lean toward more additive on the coldest days in this range. Iron it in with steady passes for about 10 minutes, let it cool completely, scrape, and brush. This is an iron-on hot wax — you need an iron and a basic tuning setup. If you're after a rub-on or paste for a quick pre-trip touch-up, this is not the right product. If your conditions run warmer than 28°F, step up to X-Wax Warm instead.
