The take

Eight sizes from 86 to 137cm, Softride construction on the small ones, and a profile that basically refuses to catch an edge. This is a proper kids' starter board.

The Ripper is the board Nitro has been refining since 2008, and at this point it's very good at its job. Flat-Out Rocker means the nose and tail rise up before the contact points — the board almost can't catch an edge. Combined with the ultra-soft flex, a small kid can steer this with very little effort.

The detail that matters most: Softride construction on sizes 116-126cm. International safety standards require a minimum binding insert depth, which forces thickness into kids' boards and makes them too stiff for 40-pound children. Nitro's Softride uses spider-web binding raisers that meet the insert standard while letting the board flex properly for a kid's weight. It's a real engineering solution, not marketing.

For 2026, Nitro widened the shapes on sizes 116-137cm. Wider platform = more stable for kids wearing bulky rental boots or boots that are a bit too big (which is every kid).

Parents should know: this board does what it's supposed to, and kids will outgrow it. Size by weight, not height. Go smaller for a brand-new rider (easier to turn), slightly bigger for a kid who's been on snow before.
