Hestra Wakayama Mitt

In Hestra's spec the outer is impregnated cowhide, and color 060060 is the exception: chrome-free impregnated goat leather. Hestra calls cowhide "a durable leather with good impregnation properties" and says it is used for many of its ski gloves.

Under the leather is Primaloft Gold insulation. The wool terry lining comes out, and the replacement liner is listed as style 3400661. At the wrist, the paracord adjustment lets you snug the fit, and the handcuffs (wrist leashes) keep the mitt tethered to you when you take it off.

Two layers do the work: Primaloft Gold insulation and the wool terry lining. The mitt shape adds to it, because your four fingers share one space and warm each other. In exchange you give up some dexterity.

Cowhide, Hestra says, "resists moisture and abrasion well."

Four colors are offered, Almond White/Almond White, Navy/Brown, Cork/Brn and Loden/Tan, each in unisex sizes 6 through 11. Every color shares the same size run, so the size you pick works in any of the four.

Hestra counts the Wakayama Mitt in its Alpine Pro range, which it says is used by freeriders, mountain guides and ski instructors, plus anyone who skis a lot in varied terrain and weather. It's a good match for fingers that run cold, because they share warmth inside the mitt.

If you need separate fingers, the Hestra Wakayama is the five-finger version, with a removable wool terry lining (3400660) and the same paracord wrist adjustment. Its fingers sit apart, so they don't share warmth the way they do in this mitt.
