Hestra Wakayama

Hestra's spec lists the outer as impregnated cowhide, with one exception: color 060060 is chrome-free impregnated goat leather. Hestra describes cowhide as "a durable leather with good impregnation properties" and says it is widely used across its ski gloves.

The wool terry lining is removable, and the replacement liner carries Hestra style number 3400660. The wrist adjusts with paracord, which lets you snug the cuff around your wrist. Handcuffs, or wrist leashes, keep the glove attached to you once you slip it off.

Hestra's spec lists no separate insulation for the five-finger Wakayama. What it lists is the removable wool terry lining, so wool is the layer against your skin. Each finger moves on its own. The cost is that they can't huddle together for warmth the way fingers in a mitt do.

On the leather side, Hestra says cowhide "resists moisture and abrasion well."

The Wakayama is unisex. It's offered in sizes 6 to 11, and every one of its five colors comes in all six sizes: Almond White/Almond White, Navy/Brown, Flame Red/Tan, Cork/Brn and Loden/Tan.

Hestra files the Wakayama under Alpine Pro, its collection for people who demand a lot from their equipment. It suits a skier who wants leather, a wool terry lining and wrist leashes.

If you want fingers that share warmth, the Hestra Wakayama Mitt puts them together. Its spec lists Primaloft Gold insulation, a removable wool terry lining with its own replacement style, 3400661, and the same paracord wrist adjustment.
