Hestra Army Leather Patrol Gauntlet Mitt

Hestra describes Army Leather as a specially treated goat leather that "withstands tough, outdoor conditions," first used for military gloves. The Dobby fabric it's paired with is windproof and breathable.

The Bemberg/polyester mitt lining is removable, and its replacement is Hestra style 34071. The snow lock is an inner cuff that closes around your wrist inside the gauntlet. Elastic at the wrist keeps it close, and a wrist strap with Velcro closure lets you snug it down. Handcuffs, which are wrist leashes, keep the mitt hanging from your wrist when you slip a hand out. There's also a carabiner, a hanging loop, and reinforcement details.

The heat comes from G-Loft insulation and the Bemberg/polyester mitt lining. A mitt keeps your four fingers in one space, where they warm each other instead of sitting apart. What you give up is dexterity, since the fingers can't move separately.

Between the snow lock and the gauntlet, the wrist is covered twice. The fabric is windproof and breathable, and Hestra says Army Leather's structural properties provide "effective protection against moisture."

Sizes run 6 through 11 in Hestra's numbering, and the mitt is unisex. Every size is offered in Navy, Charcoal and Olive.

It belongs to Hestra's Alpine Pro collection, which Hestra says suits people who ski a lot in varied terrain and weather. Pick it if your fingers get cold and you want a gauntlet mitt with a snow lock.
