Hestra Army Leather Heli Ski Mitt

Army Leather is a specially treated goat leather. Hestra says it was originally used to make military gloves and that it "withstands tough, outdoor conditions." Here it covers the palm. The backhand is HESTRA Triton, a recycled polyamide fabric. Hestra also lists Eagle Grip construction.

The Bemberg/polyester mitten lining is removable, and Hestra gives it a replacement-liner style number (34071). At the wrist there is elastic plus a strap with a Velcro closure to snug the fit. The snow lock is an inner cuff that closes around the wrist. Handcuffs, Hestra's word for wrist leashes, keep the mitt attached when your hand is out of it. The feature list also includes a carabiner.

A mitt puts four fingers in one compartment, where they share heat instead of each warming its own sleeve. Add G-Loft and the lining, and that is the whole case for this mitt. The cost is dexterity, because those four fingers move as one.

Hestra specifies the Triton backhand as windproof and breathable. For the palm, Hestra says Army Leather's structural properties provide "effective protection against moisture."

Sizes 6 through 11 come in all seven colors: Black, Royal Blue, Navy, Grey, Light Red Multi, Espresso and Olive. Size 5 is offered in Black, Royal Blue and Navy. Size 12 is offered in Black only.

Skiers whose fingers get cold first and who want an Army goat leather palm. Hestra files this mitt under Alpine Pro, gloves it says are used by freeriders, mountain guides and ski instructors, and that "stand up to heavy wear and tear."
